No, he was from the Delta of Arkansas and went to boarding school at Baylor in Chattanooga. His mom was from NOLA and my ex's mom's first cousin. One of my uncles was his family's commodity broker for 40 years and my other uncle was his first cousin's best man in his wedding.

It is generational and I am a godfather to his second son. The connections are deep and his wife is from NOLA and her grandmother and my grandmother were best friends for over 50 years.

I think about him all the time. He was such a great guy, but the demons got him.

It takes stamina and commitment, for sure. And can drive you crazy looking for that lost duck or trailing a deer. But, it doesn't make the grade for me as a sport. I've loved every second I've spent hunting, but it is an activity.

A great one for sure.

Oh I concur whole-heartedly.
But the thread first appeared on the OT and I just couldn't leave it alone while the Nancie's had at it.

Try walking 2 miles down a muddy trail in the dark, 30# of stand and gear on your back, climbing a tree in the dark, and if lucky, dragging a deer those 2 miles back.

Pretty sporting.

Yea. I'm pretty sure a lot of the OT pussies from the beginning of the thread couldn't hang with the public land stuff. Or at least they'd get freaked out by all the icky spiders you run into in the dark on the way in and want to go home

It's not the spiders so much as it is the spiderwebs. I get some serious cardio in after walking into a spiderweb.

No skill or athletic ability??? Instead of watching hunting on tv, you should go out and try it. Hunt public land. You should come duck hunting with me one day, and if your legs aren't too sore the next day, we can go for a deer hunt. I promise after a day wading through the marsh your legs will hurt so bad you won't want to get out of bed the next day. And I guarantee you wouldn't see shite if you came deer hunting with me. If you could pack the stand in the woods, and I showed you how to use it, you wouldn't make it 15 feet up the tree. You would most likely have to cut branches with a hand saw which takes athletic ability. And if you did somehow manage to kill a deer, I doubt you'd be able to pull it out. The walk is so long I use a cart, put a 120 pound deer on it and pull it over logs and cypress knees. Considering you started this thread, I already know you'd cry like a bitch after an hour afield with me. It takes both skill and athletic ability, therefore I classify it as a sport.

It's not a sport but it does require skill.

Many non-hunters think you can just sit in a stand and just kill stuff. Doesn't really work this way. Especially with hunting public land without nice food plots and equipment to clear out land. Even some leases I was in, we hardly ever killed bucks in the food plots. Most of the bucks were killed in the woods in hard to reach places.

For me, I have to go out and scout the deer and find out where they are at and how they are moving through the property. Sometimes you have to move your stand a few times to pattern them. And since I bowhunt a lot, you have to play the wind and keep that in mind while hunting them. Then you have to make a good shot which can be hard to do with a bow when it's 40 or below and you are wearing a bunch of clothes.

Do you consider it a sport when you chase your pot belly pig around the house for sexy time? How is P-pie by the way?

who cares if its considered a sport? those that indulge love it, and those who don't, dislike it. to each his own.
personally, i love deer hunting to the tune of 40-50 hunts per season. it's more of a challenge versus trying to classify it as a "sport."

No question. Depression and stress cause a lot problems from bad life style choices to direct health problems.
