Pretty sure inviting and/or hosting recruits for a bowl game is a recruiting violation. If they do come they would have to pay their own way. And while I'm sure there are some shady ways of LSU paying for it, it isn't worth the risk.

Ok, nm, so we can invite them unofficially and let them come to things such as watching "open" practices. As long as they pay for everything.

Do y'all think a 9-3 LSU team would have gotten the Peach Bowl over 9-3 Ole Miss has we beaten Arkansas?

I own the company and I'm giving everyone the afternoon of the 30th, the 31st and Jan 1 off. What's the problem?

I think we would have had a very real shot. We would have had a tied record with them and a head-to-head win over them. We lost more than just a game on November 15.

Arkansas also shut out Ole Miss. You know, the only team to beat Alabama.

He is bitching about the time moron. There are worse bowls with more convenient kickoff times. Further, most people work that day, so ratings will be low to begin with.

I'd like to see the bowls more spread out so they all get decent timeslots

I just don't get the time slot. It would make more sense to have multiple games on at the same time in the evenings than spread them out to these times. Just crazy.

Bitching about something nobody can control sounds productive.

So basically, playing in crappy bowls are fine, as long as it doesn't conflict with your work schedule?

I had to work on New Year's Day last year, watched the Iowa game at my desk. Somehow, the earth maintained its orbit.

The ad hominem on this board today is making my head explode.

No one has postulated the argument "playing in crappy bowls are fine, as long as it doesn't conflict with your work schedule."

The point is poor scheduling is bad for ticket sales, ratings, and ad revenue, regardless of bowl.

It's a meaningless bowl game. I can't believe this actually bothers you. We lost 4 games for crying out loud. How does the time that a 4 loss team plays affect CFB one way or the other?

Meaningless is subjective in this instance. This game, in my own, has meaning on a variety of different levels: player development, coaching development, recruiting, post-season exposure, revenue, etc.

It does bother me, yes, mainly because the team I support is playing during the middle of a work day. I am not the only one bothered by this.

But Nashville at 2:00 PM, during the middle of a work day after a holiday weekend is probably the worst bowl slot of them all after maybe the Taxslayer Bowl (which is during the middle of the day on Friday, January 2).

Agreed. Thinks like this used to matter more before the vast TV exposure college football gets now. But every single game LSU plays is on TV. If a high school player and his family are interested in LSU, they don't have to be in the same city as the team on gameday to get info about them anymore.

Exactly. The "bad for recruiting" angle is overrated. The only people angry about this are the LSU fans that have to work the day of the game and/or would have went to Houston, but can't make it to Nashville.

The players on the team are likely more excited about going to Nashville as opposed to a city/stadium they have already played in this year. They're probably also more excited to play ND as opposed to a .500 Texas team that was never in any national conversation this year other than to talk about how mediocre they were. ESPN gets a great match-up which will likely attract more viewers than normal to a less than ideal time slot. Nashville is happy because this is probably the best match-up they've ever had in that game.

Both the bowls and teams have a say in the 6 "equal" bowls. From the Texas Bowl's perspective, we have already been to that stadium for a game this year, and we are much less likely than Arkansas fans to travel for the game, as there are so many Tiger fans in Houston or within driving distance. Paired with UT, who also has an obviously large built in local fanbase, that cuts down on tourism dollars. Most bowls do care about this, as it keep the local government in their corner. I know the Liberty Bowl board does, because we hear about it all the time here.

As for the daytime start, that's pretty simple. It is a hell of a lot colder in TN at night during Winter. Usually 15-20 degrees colder. 55 is a lot more tolerable than 35.

This used to be a common complaint with both teams and fans who went to the Liberty Bowl, so they negotiated with ESPN and were able to get their time slot changed in the late 90s. I went to one of those cold night games (State vs Air Force in 91 or 92), and it was around 30 at the kick. I was glad my group had field press passes, as being able to walk the sidelines kept us warm. We had fun, but it was really cold.

I would imagine that the Music City Bowl has an afternoon kick for the same reason. I don't blame them at all for it. And as for ESPN, there are enough people who are fans, or who are off work and will watch that it works for them. For those of you who don't like it, it is what it is. These bowls won't change.
