If it hasn't happened by now, it will never happen. The PC Police have removed the term "Pearl Harbor'd" from the lexicon. We are more likely to have a National Day of Shame for building the Japanese Internment Camps or dropping the atom bombs on Japan.

Speaking of internment camps, it's ironic that Hawaiians of Japanese descent were not involved in the internment process een though some gave aid to a Jap pilot downed at Pearl Harbor and others supported Japan during the war.

Did you just manage to say Japs were not interned while also saying that the world is getting more PC?

You have to admit if we were so hard back then we would have locked them up.

Say what you will about FDR and the lasting legacy of the New Deal, when push came to shove, he stepped the frick up and said, to quote Jeffery Lebowsky :"this shite will not stand, man." Though he may have wanted to remain neutral, Pearl Harbor was so egregious a wrong, that he stepped up and began an American arse-kicking that led to us being the foremost world power in the early-mid 40s that has lasted 70'+ years, and the future fate of the world depends almost solely on that position he established. He didn't ask for, nor Isis he likely want that responsibility. But he got it. Along with Truman.

So much of a President's legacy is tied to foreign affairs completely out of his control and how he responds. Bill Clinton could have been an all-time great, but everything was so smooth during his reign. He didn't have the opportunity to be great. He balanced the budget and decreased unemployment, but nothing major(relatively) on the foreign affairs front happened during his 8 years. And what did, seemed to be (spun anyway) a way to take the focus off his Oval Office blowjob. He was probably one of the better a presidents that won't be recognized as such due strictly to timing.

George Bush got himself in way over his head with 9/11 and the resulting War on Terror. Very few Presidents would have been prepared for such an international shift in warfare. Disagree with his tactics as we might, he drew a line in the sand like FDR and said "this shite will not stand, man." We will hunt you down with simultaneous wars against countries/entities that may not have had anything to do with 9/11, but are fricking unacceptable to American interests in the world. Bush wanted no part of the shitstorm that 9/11 brought, but he stepped up.'because sometimes, shite will not stand, and if you are the HNIC, you have to make that clear. Bush probably wanted to lower some taxes for the working class and big business at ten same time--he didn't want to have to deal with 9/11 and the war on terror. But history had a different plan. I wonder how jealous Clinton was/is over that.

Great men have to be innately great, but they also have to have the opportunity to prove it. I'd run into a burning fire to save my kids-or any kids--if presented the opportunity, but. I haven't been and others have. They are the heroes based mostly on fate. But fate counts.

As much as people,irrationally hate President Obama(he wanted to provide healthcare to those who couldn't afford it-what a bastard!!), and as much shirt as he talked about closing down Guantonamo in the 1st hundred days or whatever, when faced with the facts, he changed his mind. And he put his balls on the line to hunt down and capture Osama, when the Bush administration had basically given up. A liberal President with no military background had the balls to say again, "this shite will not stand' man." You can run and you can hide and you can disappear into a sovereign nation that we are relatively friendly with 9 years later, but we are coming for your fricking arse. I don't care how much I ran on hope and change and forgiveness and whatthefrick, you kill 3,000 Americans, we will scour the fricking ends of the earth, change administrations 9 years later, and you will taste our reckoning. We are morally superior and you--and the rest of the world--will know .that we will have our justice.

Back to the thought that Presidents are historically judged by their responses to foreign affairs. It's not their doing, but oftentimes heroes aren't either. They' are thrust into situations they don't expect, and they step,up and they either step up and become men. Or they don't. Their character is revealed in how they handle unexpected controversy or chance. How will I respond? How will you?

I've been asking myself this same question this morning, and every year at this time of remembrance. All I ever get is the historical explanations that it was such a far fetched idea to accept. Sincerely, you have to go to the who's that were in arrogant (?) positions of governmental leadership and oversight?

You must give some weight to the times though. Different days in the past compared to the ways of thinking today.

We legitimately thought it was too obvious....but on the other hand crazier things have happened. Like Jesus being born on the same day we celebrate Christmas. Just another one of those things that make you go, hmmmmm.
