I don't know how it's not a National Holiday. I remember 4 years ago today, I was just starting Boot camp and wondering wtf I got myself into.. I saw the date I had written and remembered that if all those old salt dogs could do it back in the gap, chesty sure as frick could do it too.

I'll never understand why the U.S. didn't anticipate that Japan might choose Pearl Harbor Day to bomb Pearl Harbor.....

I've been asking myself this same question this morning, and every year at this time of remembrance. All I ever get is the historical explanations that it was such a far fetched idea to accept. Sincerely, you have to go to the who's that were in arrogant (?) positions of governmental leadership and oversight?

Uh.....I think you might have...........oh, forget it.

FDR cut off oil and other basics to Japan for their invading China. Pearl Harbor was payback for that.

I was at the National Mall a couple of hours ago, and they were setting up for a concert or something. Our greatest generation.

80 years ago today and I believe also on a Sunday my mother was born. We just had a nice discussion regarding Rosevelts speech which we typically do.

imo the only thing that FDR screwed up was arresting or rounding up Japanese Americans and holding them in captivity thinking that they were part of a plot against U.S.

My favorite uncle was on a sub stationed there then & he always told this story. They had gotten paid, in cash, the day before, Sat, so all the sailors had cash in their pockets. When the shite started, they all hauled arse up & out of the sub without dressing. But when one started cursing about leaving his money, uncle & several others went back down, potentially risking their lives as "bombs were dropping all over the place". Got his pants on & made it to the surface, lined up to jump in the water, and the captain told them all to strip to their boxers to avoid drowing. Still pissed off bout losing his whole paycheck.

Among other things. It was inevitable that we would be attacked by Japan. Just the matter of when and where. We had over 600 Army Air Corpmen in China protecting the Burma Road flying P40s (Flying Tigers) under the Chnese insignia way before Pearl. We were kind of already in the war....just not officially.
