I remember the topic coming up a while back. Did anyone join? If so, your opinions are welcome.

Deets - $125/year. Invite to dinners that are about 50-75 each.

WELCOME TO DINNER LAB

Dinner Lab is a social dining experiment that unites undiscovered chefs with adventurous diners who are looking for something different from the conventional restaurant experience. Our events bring together a group of interesting strangers around a common table to share cuisine crafted by up-and-coming chefs from all over the country.

We don’t dictate what our chefs cook, but instead give them a platform to tell a story through their menus – recipes that speak to their background or heritage, ingredients they are passionate about, or completely new dishes they’ve been experimenting with on days away from the restaurant. Our platform flips the traditional “dinner out” on its head by putting chefs at the center stage and giving our diners a voice in the process. Each time you attend an event, your feedback and suggestions are shared with the chef so that he or she can iterate and improve on their menu concept. With your input, aspiring chefs are given the tools they need to effectively prototype new dishes and tweak recipes to help them create the next great restaurant concept.

Chef Janelle Reynolds in Austin is a very good friend of mine, she is a chef within the dinner lab concept and is quite successful. Can't speak for New Orleans, but those that I've talk to in the Austin area really love being a part of that

I'd rather choose my own dining companions and not have to conform to someone else's schedule of when I dine out. Also not paying a membership fee...plenty of creative, interesting places to sample. In a city with limited options, I might participate. But not in NOLA.

Not yet. A buddy of mine is one of the 4 founders. I plan on joining and will report back.

I like the idea of trying food from out of town chefs. I think it's a great way for up and coming chefs to make a name for themselves.

At Thanksgiving my cousin was going on about dinnerlab. Seems pretty good if you're into eating with a bunch of people you don't know. I don't really like that, so I haven't looked in to it more.

I like the concept.

I took a cooking class once and got on the mailing list of the chef who taught it. He does a "club" once a month but there are no dues.

We were just talking about this on Thanksgiving. Jones' friend is one of the owners/founders.

I think it's really cool.

I am. I really enjoy it. Interesting cuisine (the last one I went to was an Eastern European one), in cool environments and endless liquor and beer. Plus the people you meet are rather interesting.

I know some people in it. They say some are great and some not so great. One day I'll take them up on their invitation to go.

I joined recently after some friends told me about it and went to my first one a couple weeks ago. My wife and I really enjoyed it. The food was excellent and it was set up in an old vacated bldg on Magazine. They did a great job with the atmosphere. We went with 3 other couples so we weren't exactly eating with strangers though. I probably won't go to any without a group of people.

Prices aren't bad either. Sure there is the membership fee but the dinners are considerably less than what I would normally spend to go to dinner. It will only take me 2 dinner labs to make up for the membership fee.

They do one specialty cocktail and that is the only one you can get so if you are particular with liquor you are shite out of luck. But I was content to drink a couple of this vodka cocktail before switching to wine with my meal. They also have a couple different beers they offer as well.

all in all, if you go out often and you are looking for a pretty cool thing to do that's a nice change of pace I would recommend giving it a try, especially if you do it with friends. I would say it probably isn't for people that don't get that opportunity more than once or twice a month and are very particular with there liquor, wine, and beer selections.

Cool, we had some other couples interested in joining as well. Is there only a couple days notice? Our schedules suck for that type of thing.

Once you sign up, they release a new event every Wednesday. You can then sign up for it (although they usually fill up within a day of release) There's usually a span of three weeks to a month between the release/sign up and the event itself, so no short notice. They send you emails the week of to remind you and fill you in on where the location is, etc.
