What makes ketchup an offensive condiment to some?

Speaking specifically of hamburgers and hotdogs...
What makes it okay to cover my dog or burger in mustard, but not add ketchup?
I have wondered this for quite some time, and I knew you guys would be able to give me a real answer that won't be provided on the OT.

i thought most people put ketchup on the traditional hamburger?

I wouldn't say offensive, people like what they like. Personally I think ketchup masks the flavor of what it is being put on, instead of enhancing the flavor. I use ketchup as an ingredient, not a condiment.

I didn't think anyone was bashing the use of ketchup on hotdogs, hamburgers, and the like.
Now ketchup on a nice cut of steak is an entirely different ballgame.

You don't use it as a condiment on fries?

Nope. I'd rather a good aioli or malt vinegar and salt.

Look, this is all subjective. I'd rather not use it, some people love it. Doesn't bother me if they do.

Microwave a ribeye,
Dip it in ketchup,
Come back and tell me that's not the best thing you've ever tasted.

It's coagulated sugar with red food coloring. Zero health benefits.

I only put ketchup on fries. Mustard on everything else.

Ketchup is great on burgers and CFA sandwiches. I also like to use it as a dipping sauce for fried fish, fried shrimp, and chicken strips.
Outside of that, I don't need ketchup.

quote:ketchup on hotdogs is to satiate the palate of a child, imo. I have no problem with adults having childlike tendencies as long as it doesn't affect me.

Lately I've only been eating ketchup when I wanted too. It's been working out.

There are other condiments I prefer over ketchup, but I still eat plenty. I do know that there are some burger establishments that refuse to carry ketchup and consider it offensive if you ask.

Nothing about ketchup offends me!

Poor taste is the reason, OP.
