Muschamp, Bear and Les

So Auburn averages 500+ yards the last 2 years vs Bama. They or AGGIES will likely land Muschamp. When the game passed Beat Bryant by, he went to Austin and installed the Wishbone to give Bama it's most successful 10 years in history What will it take for Les to humble himself to the point of change that even Bear was willing to go to? And I'm 100% pro Les .....

Beat Bryant wasn't as smart as his brother bear , that's why. Beat Bryant was cursed with a bad name

How did going to Austin and installing the wishbone make Bama successful?

Man, I thought he did that when he hired Cam last year? We had upperclassmen running that O. This year we had Freshmen and sophomores. Thats the difference. Just crazy how when O does poorly, its all Les. When they did great last year, everyone wanted to make Cam HC in waiting. Maybe its time for some of you people to accept that we ran the offense that best suited or experience level and talent. AJ is not the type of guy who's going to throw it all over the field. In his admittedly very, very, very, limited opportunities to show he could, Brando Harris didn't quite take advantage. Young receivers dropped a lot of balls this year. Our strength on O? The two stud freshmen we recruited and two more than capable seniors. We relied on those guys. Hopefully next year we won't have to do that.

Youre 100% right but that doesnt change the fact that we still lost 3 games that year.

We didn't lost those games because of offensive philosophy.

And Auburn lost four this year with even MORE offense. Do you see what I'm getting at? Bringing in Muschamp will not do much in improving that defense. The HUNH limits that.
Once HUNH goes up against a real defense where they can't score 100 points, they are toast. They run off all those plays and it is akin to a spinning wheel trying to escape mud. Their defense then can't handle a brutal 40 min power run team, or a team with just a more methodical offense. This has beat Oregon for years.

It probably had more to do with Alabama finally allowing black athletes to play football. Bama signed its first black football player in 1970, one year before it installed the wishbone. Bama went 6-5-1 in '70 before winning 10 or more games in nine of the next 10 seasons in an era where there were 11 regular-season games and a bowl. I suspect that even with the wisbhone, Bama would not have been a force had it not started signing black players.

...and having 210 kids on scholarship--who would never play for Bama (but more importantly they would never play for Bama competition) didn't hurt the "Beat's" cause.

69 and 70 were the two worst years for Bama under Bryant at the time. He shut down his pro offense. Went to Austin to meet with OC Emory Bellard, who invented the wishbone. Bear came back and junked his entire offensive philosphy i.e., swallowed his pride and 1971 Bama played Nebraska for NC as undefeated. Would have done same in 72 if not for Punt Bama Punt with War chicken. 73, played for NC and awarded it even though they lost... go figure. Then 74 and 75 saw great teams but no NC. 78, 79 and 80 were All Bama all the time though only two NC's.

I appreciate this... Well spoken and reasoned and would have agreed myself on most days in most years. I'm a big les supporter. But when I read that we've junked 8 QBs in the last 10 years while no other SEC school has lost more than 2 and that's with numerous coaching changes, then something has to be amiss. It's obvious Les is a great recruiter and a great coach who keeps things always positive. That's an incredible quality in any leader because no one ever panics. HOWEVER... when that is your strength, sometimes and I think so in this case, you (Les) don't panic so they don't consider bigger more necessary changes. Les doesn't panic... Great. Les doesn't panic so Les tends to think everything is always going to be OK... Face it... This year was 5 - 4 if you take out the three easy sure W's. Take out Kentucky and you're down to 4 - 4 against good competition. I think that AJ and Brandon would both benefit from a more multi faceted offense. Additionally LF would see more open space. I'm sorry, but the RB at Auburn last year and the one this year are not better than LF or Terrance... But they run in space all the time... The defense has to spread out... I'd love to see Travin coming around on the jet sweep fake with LF getting to go up the gut with a linebacking corps that is spread out... Wow..

WOW... Yep... So you're saying the Black Athlete made a difference at Alabama??? I really didn't realize that this happened at same time. You're 100% spot on for sure. Thanks.
