Wow.

Whats so "wow"... I would LOVE to hear your ground breaking analysis

She initially started the campaign asking for 25k to get her bakery back up and running. She now has 8 times what she needed. If she is an honorable person, she will spread what she doesn't need to make her whole to others that lost shite during the riots.

That is not true.

LINK

Once again you have proven your willful ignorance.

Even the link you provided says gifts are non-taxable to the recipient. How much have you paid in taxes on the Christmas gifts you've received during your life?

If the amount of a gift from an individual giver exceeds the annual exclusion amount, which is $14,000 for 2014, the GIVER pays a gift tax, not the person receiving the gift.

You just lost the little credibility you had on this board.

There are no strings attached for donations. If you are scared of what people will do with the money and dont trust them, DONT DONATE.

I figured that could be a problem trying to get it covered because of riots. I think some sort of reform needs to be made in this area but I doubt any discussion would go very far in how to change insurance.

Who cares how much she gets? Really. How does it affect you if she gets $25k or $25 mil? People are being nice.

Maybe she'll even use the money to pack up and get the frick out of that shithole, and open up a store somewhere where people will actually appreciate businesses.

You don't know how much she needs.

Did I say it fricking did

She put that she needed 25k when she started the Fund Me project. It is now 8 times what she said she needed

ETA: Once she got to her goal, people should be giving to other causes in the area if they want to help, hence why I said that if she was honorable, she would take what she needs and give the extra to the other businesses that need it.

Well you seem to be upset enough about it to make a thread trying to tell her what to do with her money.

Well she got more. It's not like she scammed it out of people. A pasta salad made over $1 million on kickstarter. Sometimes people just keep giving money.

Yup yup... that is it. Me saying "If she was honorable, she would use the excess money to help others" is me telling her what to do.

You got me

Exactly, I'm not saying she has to or could be held accountable for not...

Just saying that if she got way more than she needed under the "I'm a business owner who lost everything during the riots and want to rebuild to support the community" then if she has extra money that she doesn't need, she should help out other owners, just like she was helped.

Now had her business been the only one destroyed, then its a completely different situation.

If you think $200,000 coming into a business that is not shareholder investment or debt is not income and taxable as income you are crazy.

PLUS the possible taxable aspects of the gifts if qualified as a taxable gift and you will can clearly see your statement "gifts are non taxable" is very wrong.

Good for her. I have no problem with people donating to an innocent victim.

The gifts were made to an individual in small amounts. You didn't read your own link and you look foolish for it. You're still wrong. As usual.
