What's the best way to season grits on a low salt diet?

I've tried salt free Tony C's, Ms. Dash, Cayenne pepper, salt free butter and others but haven't come across the right seasoning yet.

Grits need black pepper, for me. Just limit the salt and eat a smaller portion. Add a pat of butter or gravy.

This is a hard one. I'd leave the salt out of the grits and go with a salted topping: grated Parmesan, a little crumbled low salt bacon, finely chopped chives and a few shreds of cheddar.....

Thanks for the tips guys (and if anyone out there has more, keep 'em coming).
I tried the black pepper this morning and that did help. I've tried 1/2 slice of bacon or a small breakfast sausage link chopped up and sprinked on top before but not much success there (though an improvement over plain for sure) plus I think I'm bringing in some salt by adding those.

Yep. I think the best you can do is to enjoy the grits, with as little salt as you can stand, complemented by other flavors.

low sodium hot sauce - trader joes has a hot sauce with 0mg of sodium that is really good.
Anything rich like Unsalted butter and gravys work for me

For savory grits you might try one of these:
Chives
Sage
Thyme
Tarragon
Rosemary

Roasted garlic. The heart-healthy way to start your day.

Garlic and a touch of 2% cheddar.

A nice way to add flavor to grits is to first toast them off in a dry non-stick pan. Really nice change to the flavor, but no real sub for salt. Can't you just cut way back, why all the way down to zero. I have cut way back on salt and it takes a little time to get use to less, but it will happen. My two cents.

I feel your pain. I'm on the low salt diet also. I do enjoy black pepper in my grits also.
