And the nations that will end up out competing them over time are laughing their asses off.

Same question I have already asked many regarding diversity. Using this example, what if there are 10 board seats and the best most qualified candidates are 10 men, how will it help the business by placing sub par individuals to strictly meet a quota. And how to groups who support minority rights feel about only getting jobs because of quotas?

Not sure how they can address the volatility of the stock market with this law. I am also not entirely sure what a "non-executive" board is.

It would be a new law requiring new enforcement, so no. But if it was an existing law then it could be struck down with an executive order as per Mitt Romney. I know, I know... (your response, no? )

Strict quotas are not the way to go.

You are talking about this a-hole correct?

There is at least some evidence that similar gender quotas have raised the competence of male politicians in swedish elections.
Obviously not the same thing; but at the least, let us not immediately dismiss the idea that this could actually be of some value to society.

Pity jobs..

I would hate working for a company that hired me because they had to, not because they wanted me. It will end up hurting women more IMO. Do you think the people on the board that know these people were hired to meet quotas are going to respect them? Nope.

Perfect chance for influential men to get their wives on boards of their peer companies, and collect more cash.

Much like here when guys set their wives up as majority owner to get WIMBY status.

Because that's how you want decisions to go - not, "Who is going to help our company get better?", "Who has the best experience and vision of the available candidates?" - or, even in a crisis situation, for example, "Who is going to restore confidence in the shareholders?"

Nope:

Do you have to have female genitalia or can you just feel like being female when the audit takes place?

good point

What if you simply 'identify' as a female?

Good point. If this were the U.S., you'd probably have lots of options. I suspect Germany is going to require the genitalia, though. They're pretty rational, even when they're crazy.
