Our defense the last few seasons has been terrible against 2-minute drills

Happens to a hell of a lot of teams. it becomes much harder to defend a team needing a final drive to win or tie.

I live in Nashville. It was Chris' prevent defense that got Fulmer fired as much as his emphasis on running the ball.

I think we were in prevent 2012 I was there and thought the whole time we went zone on that lat drive.
Didn't think the other games were though. This year Bama game he just made good throws and we failed to cover the guy.

Maybe if we had a QB that could lead our offense to more than 2 TDs in 3 games late game defense would be less of an issue.

It's actually the ultra aggressive late game defense. If you watch the 2012 Bama game and 2014 OM and Bama game, Chief ran the same blitz every play in all three games. OM did the exact same thing as those other teams, but a stupid delay of game kept them from a chance at the win.

While Miles and the O couldn't put it away when they had every opportunity to do so, Chief and the D have found a way to lose some of these close ones.

LSU is not doing much differently than any other teams in those situations late in games. It's on the defense to make a stop or make a play to win those games or have the offense run the clock out when they have the chance.

If you blitz and leave your corners on an island and get burnt deep than what.

Chavis is doing a solid job in those situations, dropping players in coverage to affect passing game mixed with a timely blitz here or there.

This ^^ .... but never ever let lack of football knowledge get in the way of a useless rant.

You are correct about this. Whether it's called a "prevent defense" or what ever else you want, it's a major flaw in the past three seasons.

I called into SVP saying this exact same thing. If your defense is stopping them all game...why change anything except that you tell your safeties don't get beat deep. Keep it in front of you. Don't go into a deep cover 3 zone or cover four With only three guys rushing. You stay man to man at the corners and outside linebacker positions. If they catch it tackle them in bounds. We don't 9 defensive backs or something stupid. Just play D and don't get beat for the big play. It's frustrating to see us do that

I actually did a bit of in depth research on this topic last year. Some of the failures are quite shocking. Keep in mind I posted this information in 2013.

quote:

Going back to the 2010 season and into this season LSU has now allowed scores before halftime or late in 4th in 22 of 59 games.

quote:

Here's the breakdown:
Record in those games: 16-6
Record if the opponent scores at the end of half & at the end of game: 1-4
Record against opponents who finished the year in the Top 25: 5-6.(assuming UGA finishes in top 25).
Total losses:7.
ETA: Record in all other games: 37-1.
[quote]

[quote]For the Bama obsessed: it's happened to them 12 times in the same time frame and they are 11-1.

12/31/2012 Clemson LSU ahead 24 – 22 with 1:39 remaining in the game. Clemson gets the ball on their own 20, with 3 times left. They go 18 plays, run the clock out and kick the game winning field goal. Clemson wins 25-24.

Chavis has a reputation to "playing scared" at times ..to not lose rather than to win.
This has lost LSU and TN many games.
Chavis was fired from TN for that and he was largely responsible for Fulmer's firing as well.

Call it prevent, call it read/react, call it what you want..it does not matter...

when playing a fast team, by the time the reaction comes, the opponent has gained 3-5 yards.

in fairness, he has done better this year, but then, we have not been ahead in all games
