The fact that the Brown family attorney just confirmed the timing makes me believe that he was also informed of the decision itself. I have the feeling that if it was a no true bill outcome, and he knew it, he would have remained silent. To me, this portends an indictment, most likely for second degree involuntary manslaughter. My feeling is that, in the end, a few members of the Grand Jury took the "let God sort it out" approach and shifted their sentiment in the last two weeks, using the rationale that they could protect their community by doing so while still giving the officer his day in court for the least culpable of all their options, and knowing what they know, a confidence that, like George Zimmerman, Officer Wilson will walk free after trial. I don't agree with that sentiment at all, but I can easily see how they could justify it in their own minds.

This concerns me as well, and it's just not fricking right. Indict if you believe in the merits of the crime, not for this reason. It's bullshite to put Wilson, or any man through a trial for that reason if you don't find merit in this phase. It's not what the court is for, or how it is meant to function.

So, in other words, out of fear of what the black community of Ferguson might do, the GJ is going to basically kick the can down the road to an actual jury trial, where they're pretty certain he'll be acquitted.

Which will only forestall the inevitable and serve to inflame tensions even further. Brilliant.

I haven't been following this much, but didn't the supposed leaks from the GJ come back to be bogus? How do we know how the GJ was leaning?

Seems like they would hurry up and make the announcement if they indict.

Or, are they going to riot either way?

The agitators who are running the ground game don't really care about the case. They're here for the mayhem. I could see riots either way. I will be very surprised if McCullough wanted an indictment. And what the DA wants with the GJ is usually what they get.

Depends on the indictment (if there is one).

As I said above, I would expect it will be something like second degree involuntary manslaughter, a guilty verdict for which the maximum sentence is, I believe, 5 years, perhaps even 3 years. While it's more to their liking (obviously) than a non-indictment, they will be pissed that it's the lowest decision regarding personal culpability, especially the "involuntary" part. In the minds of many of them, it was flat out Murder, with a capital M, and while at first they may feel a bit placated just by getting any indictment, the crap-stirrers among them, and on CNN, will quickly drive home the fact that what the GJ said is that Wilson simply made a mistake in judgement as opposed to being a cold-blooded murderer, and their reaction will escalate in the days ahead.

When you guys were positive it was not going to be an indictment, it was long lectures for the "rioters" about how things work. Now that you think you might not get things to go your way, the court is the all screwed up and you are still right.

Maybe they should have delayed the verdict so that the "free Wilson" people would have forgotten about it.

In Furguson or on this board? Because I don't have too much hope for the latter.
