white zinfandel and the right seasonings go great with shrimp (or skrimps as zach would say)

someone recommend a good white in the 10-15 range

Thanksgiving night we are opening a 1995 Silver Oak. We will be decanting it for 2 hours before we drink it. Fingers crossed!

Let us know. Have a back-up bottle of mid-range stuff ready just in case.

'95 was a good year for Sonoma/Napa, but 19 years might be a bit much for Silver Oak. I would think about 15 years is the upper limit for that wine. Hope I'm wrong. Let us know how it was.

That's what I've been reading, but I've read some reviews of bottles that were opened this year and they said it was good. One guy decanted it for 4 hours before he drank it.

Decanting does wonders.

We opened a fairly old Clarendon Hills Brookman Vineyard shiraz recently and it was pretty bad after about 1 1/2 hours of decanting. However, by the next night it was excellent. I've got two more bottles of it, so next time I open one it will probably be in the morning of the night I plan on drinking it.

Vending Machine Winery - owned by a couple from N.O., but California grapes. They make some great red blends, such as Horror Show and Crooked Mayor.

My family loves cabernet so we will be pouring multiple bottles of 2005 Swanson Alexis Cabernet.

Do you know them Glass? Elizabeth is from New Orleans. I've met them a few times at their winery. I have a lot of their wine and Alexis is a good one, their daughter. Clark is a nice guy.

No, but they are heading there Thursday evening. I'm stuck with their dog. Can't bring that beast on NetJet.

The Grand is a good place for Thanksgiving. We've spent the last few years at Watercolor but kids wanted to hunt this year. It will be a good week at either. Both will be full of LSU people.

Swanson makes some good merlot and kept making it when everyone else pulled their vines up. Kind of ironic to drink great wines made from a TV Dinner fortune.

Enjoy the Alexis. I might dig one out as well and toast it South.

I just set a Peju 50/50 on the counter to drink tonight when I start prepping and brining.

If the family calls to ask what we'd like, we will say Malbec and Sauv Blanc without any concern for name; they will go to their wine guy anyway.

Since it is somewhere different this year, we might not get that call.. in which case I'll decide at Martin or Calandros what to get. It will still be Malbec and Sauv Blanc, if I had to guess.

Oh, and a bottle for the night before as well. I'll be making my first mirlintons.
