Thanksgiving is such a great meal for wine. Over the years I've served a number of different wines and most of them did just fine.

For reds I've most often served pinot noir or zinfandel, but last year served a 2009 Grenache from Dragonnette Cellars in the Santa Ynez Valley. For whites I've poured chardonnay, viognier, rousanne, and Rhone-style white blends (typically marsanne/rousanne/viognier).

This year instead of a white I'm serving a 2012 Foxy Bubbles from Blair Fox. It's a sparkling rose made from Grenache.

For the red I'm going a little outside the box and will serve a 2009 Xavier Vignon Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Anonyme.

How about the rest of you? What will you be pouring?

With roasted turkey, leek bread pudding, and a bunch of retro sides my wife is making, we will have: 89 Clos de Goisses Champagne
2004 Rochioli West Block pinot noir
1989 Chateau Montrose

Also having chocolate malted pecan pie and salted caramel apple pie and will probably serve a sticky with those.

I don't drink wine but love to cook with it. Problem is bottle size. You don't want to open a bottle of wine to use 1/2 cup for a dish.

I always keep this stuff in the fridge for cooking:

We won't eat until about 6 at the farmhouse with 12 people then settle in for the game. Wife will pick a couple of sparklings, I have a nice Beau Vigne Reserve Chardonnay I like we will have and someone will make a nice pitcher of martinis early while cooking and snacking.

For dinner I have picked out from me the following:

2006 Blackbird Paramour
2009 Shypoke Charbono Reserve (2 barrels made)
2011 3 Acre David Arthur
2011 Modus Operandi Vicarious

I'm sure others will bring many more. I'm a big Shypoke and Modus fan. I have a couple of Peter Heitz' Turnbull's I might open as well since that is his day job.

2009 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Simply because I have too much of it lying around and don't want to reach out of my comfort zone for such a big deal meal.

Definitely will have the Domaine Chandon Sparkling Red. It just tastes like thanksgiving. Very good if some of you havent tried it. Im not a champagne guy, but its a neat bottle for a special occasion.

We'll probably have a nice zin, one of the rombauer zins or ziccichi.

After that, I'll be at the hunting camp where its looking like 2014 coors light.

What do you recommend instead with French Onion Soup? Bourbon?

Thanksgiving night we are opening a 1995 Silver Oak. We will be decanting it for 2 hours before we drink it. Fingers crossed!

'95 was a good year for Sonoma/Napa, but 19 years might be a bit much for Silver Oak. I would think about 15 years is the upper limit for that wine. Hope I'm wrong. Let us know how it was.
