I'm looking at

A total US stock
Total international
Total bond

Question is : each of those requires a 3,000 deposit to begin?

I'm 28. Got roth going max and need more investment.

Ya or you can accomplish the same via ETF versions of those funds which have no minimums or going into a target retirement fund which has a lower minimum but holds those funds within it

Why does index require higher amount? ETF would mean I need to get a brokerage account?

I use vanguard

It's very easy to open a brokerage account inside your existing vanguard account. Call them, takes less than 5 min. No trade fees on their ETFs.

Or as Teddy said, just pour it into a Target Date fund. Accomplishes the same thing.

I already have an IRA though, that is a target date

Can a target date be opened not as an IRA?

Yes - I sink some money into a vanguard target date fund whenever I can. It is not in my 401k or Roth.
