One of the Florida State University students who was in the library yesterday when the shooting began, posted these images on his Facebook page and this story of what happened to him last night

Jason Derfuss via Facebook
Earlier tonight there was a shooting at FSU, right as I was leaving Strozier. I didn't know this at the time, but the Shooter targeted me first. The shot I heard behind me I did not feel, nor did it hit me at all. He was about 5 feet from me, but he hit my books. Books one minute earlier I had checked out of the library, books that should not have stopped the bullet. But they did. I learned this about 3 hours after it happened, I never thought to check my bag. I assumed I wasn't a target, I assumed I was fine. The truth is I was almost killed tonight and God intervened. I know conceptually He can do all things, but to physically witness the impossible and to be surrounded by such grace is indescribable. To God be the glory, forever and ever, Amen.

What an arrogant douche. I suppose God thought this one individual was special enough to come down and save but said "screw it" for the other people who were shot.

The three guys that got hit must have been atheists, or maybe Muslims.

Non-believers always have to be the biggest douches when someone says something about God. If you don't believe, thats fine, let it go, it isn't hurting you if someone else does.

The sole reason for this being posted is because I thought yall would be interested to see what happened with the book stopping the round.

That was interesting.

But since you also included his personal thoughts on why he was "saved" I don't know why you're surprised that some people decided to also comment on/point out how ridiculous his statement was.

Books are actually very good at stopping handgun rounds. Go and shoot a phonebook a few times and I bet you'll be able to pull the bullets from the pages.

EDIT: Glad the kid made it out. Sucks that the others weren't as fortunate.

Yep. A .45 would have blown through the books, through the student, and through about 9 more students before it was done.

Excellent post.

I am respectful of other's beliefs as this is America. I would only ask for the same courtesy of those who do not share my beliefs.

Some people would just rather be miserable and try to make other people miserable too.

I don't really believe this. Not like the bullet passed through his bag, the round was supposedly stopped. No way he doesn't physically feel that. It might not have felt like a bullet, but it should have felt like something hitting or pulling on him if from the side. The energy from the round when somewhere.
