It seems like I've heard of this, but I've never actually seen the product... Is there a wireless usb cable? A usb dongle on one end, and another for the second device, that eliminate the actual usb cable. I keep getting the actual wireless network usb devices when I search....

Problem here is I believe only one end of a USB connection supplies power, so the unpowered end would need a power supply for the dongle.

Also throughput would be drastically reduced.

It sounds like you need to buy a wireless printer. They aren't that expensive and most of them will let you print right from your phone.

What are you trying to do? There may be alternatives.

There are usb devices that are meant to serve as a dedicated ad hoc connection between computers (i.e., two dongles that communicate with each other wirelessly and nothing else). Allows you to share files between two computers. There are also wireless USB hubs. You connect the wireless dongle to the PC of choice, and then your USB devices to the wireless hub, and the hub communicates with the dongle. These are not widely sold, mostly have poor reviews (range is limited to line of sight only), and have largely become obsolete by wifi-enabled devices and routers with USB ports.

They also make what are essentially routers for USB devices. Uses your PC's wifi adapter to connect to the hub rather than requiring a dedicated dongle.

Dongle.

Just my opinion, but I'd much rather plug my dongle into something instead of letting it just hang in the air.

Same thing I was thinking

Wonder if it's something Bluetooth would solve

I'm trying to fathom a scenario where I would have use for what he is describing. I hope he isn't thinking this will work for charging.

There's a conference room at my work, and they would like to connect a smart whiteboard to its controlling PC about 15ft away. PC is in the center of a room, and the clients are anal about wanting that dongle.

I think a lot of smart whiteboards have bluetooth modules to do what you need.

Wifi direct or bluetooth would probably suit your needs better.

Better than a...

Wireless usb contraption? I know there's another name for those types of things, but I just can't seem to think of it for some reason.

It's fine, I'll look into what options I have with Bluetooth.

If it's not integrated, there's a dongle for that.

So you don't like your dongle to dangle?

A dangling dongle is dangerous.
