I think most folks would think twice about shooting someone. Ferguson or no Ferguson.
This ain't the movies folks, we're talking about pointing a gun at someone and actually taking their life.

If I had to protect myself or my family, absolutely I would. When you're not in that situation, it's difficult to conceive, but life or death, decision making becomes easy.

Accidentally sprayed some BBs into a guy's leg while rabbit hunting one time. I was about 12 I think.
