Leaving BR about 7am. Worried about traffic thru Tusc. Would it be wise to go another way?

Meridian>Selma>Birmingham perhaps?

Might be bad but they usually got it under control if you stay in the left lane to avoid people getting off the exit.

I lived in Shelby county and always preferred going 65 to 10

The only bad traffic will be from Tuscaloosa to Bham right after the game. The rest is fine.

Only bad game day traffic is from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa.
Now, if you wait til 6 pm to come through Tuscaloosa, then you may have an issue.

There is road construction on the interstate between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. The speed limit through that area is 45mph. I'm not sure of the mike markers though. You might could lookup the Alabama gameday info and see.

are you going to the Bama game?

If you drive any other way besides I-12 to I-59 it's going to add time/mileage onto your trip so you might as well go that route.
If you drive I-10 to I-65 it adds another 55 miles/1 hour to your trip. If you drive through backroads, Alabama through Selma, it adds about 35 miles onto your trip and you will lose the 70+ mph.

Traffic going in to Tuscaloosa will be moving opposite the direction you will be driving unless you are coming through after the game. Then there's a lot of traffic!
