Sprint sent our bill to collections....need help

Sprint was supposed to remove some charges off our bill last year and they never did, so we refused to pay. We eventually left Sprint and found out today that they sent us to collections with the erroneous charges on the account. I called the collection agency and offered them 50% of what we owed after taking away the charges. They said no and i told them to go pound sand. Do I have any recourse or is it out of sprints' hands now?

I believe its out of sprints hands now that it's in collections. Offer to pay them a monthly note at %75 of the total bill

Do you have any written evidence that you were wrongly charged?
My wife had the same thing happen when her dentist's office asked if she would like to get sealants that were "100% covered" by insurance. Without actually knowing that her policy does not 100% cover the sealants she went ahead and got them.
About two months later we got the $900 bill in the mail. We went back and forth with the chain dentist's office, and my wife eventually got copied on an email from the office manager to corporate billing stating that their computer system incorrectly indicated 100% coverage at the time of service.
Almost a year later we started getting calls from collections. Ended up reporting them to better business bureau, and the claim was dropped.

You need to resolve issues before you leave. You have no leverage now.

So some of the charges are legit, and some are not?
If that is the case, why didn't you pay the legit ones?
If all the charges are bogus, then send a certified letter ot the collection agency and formally contest the debt.
If you don't do something, though, it will hit your credit report.

Did you think Sprint was just going to write off what you owed them?
Pay the bill (100%) and then take it to small claims court if you believe you are correct that you don't owe it all.

Refusal to pay and ignoring the bill does not make it go away.
The damage is already done. Even if you pay in full, your credit has already taken a hit.
Good luck with Spring and the creditors but I'm afraid all your time and effort will be to no avail.

Stuff like this happens because of a communication problem of some sort, either because you misunderstood something or someone at Sprint misunderstood someone else at Sprint to get the charge removed from the bill. Despite what the Supreme Court says, a company is not a person. It is a collection of people, and sometimes messages get garbled.
The proper course was to call Sprint's billing disputes line (every big consumer services company has one) and ask that they listen to the recorded conversation you had with their rep. If they come back with "we listened and you misunderstood something" then you would probably have to take them to court to subpoena the recording, but if you were right they'll reverse the charges.
But now that it is in collections, your beef with Sprint is not the collection agency's problem. At this point the only possibility is to pay the collection agency and then maybe take Sprint to small-claims court, but without evidence you're going to have a hard time winning. Even if you do win, your credit rating is in the tank and probably rightly so because you didn't resolve this ahead of time.

Same thing happened to me with Sprint over 10 years ago. It was only $46 but I never paid it and it eventually dropped off my credit report. I still get letters from collection agencies every now and the . It's probably been bought 5 or 6 times on the zombie debt market.
