ETA: it is a little disconcerting that, for all the talk JK did about changing the style of play to more attack, we're in year 3 under him and not much has changed. Bob and Bruce would've employed the exact same tactics that we saw today.
Depends on the opposition. I wish Wenger would sometimes play less attacking soccer. It exposes so many holes when caught in possession.

He is saying that we talk a big game and we are still roughly the same team after this "transformation."

It shows some nuanced tactics if you ask me. We are a solidly top 16 or so team IMO. But, to just relentlessly attack a team of Colombia's quality would just be dumb.

I agree, you have to pick your spots to push forward, but let's be real, the way we played tonight is no different than we have played in 2010, 06 or 02.
Our talent pool is improving, that's unarguable, but our play is not.

We didn't get blown out by a top 5 in the world Colombia team in front of an "away" crowd while playing a bizarro world lineup and missing several starters. If you don't think that the result is an improvement on how we played 10 years ago then I'm sorry but we live in different USMNT soccer worlds. The results may not be great but the pool is moving in the right direction. Not sure that our coach is the right one, but let's keep in mind we escaped the group of death this summer that no one outside the U.S. soccer circle (ie the whole world and casual American fans) thought we could get through, and did so with so many factors working against us.

I really was impressed with Rubio. Could he have done better on the header chances, yes. But, he looks to be physically strong and very smart in positioning.

ditto.
Absolutely no idea who he was/is, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Plays for FC Utrecht in Holland. The stage didn't seem to bother him at all.

Rubin is a stud. He plays the number ten role for Utrecht and is now a 90 minute player. Has been on Eredivisie teams of the week. He's tied for fourth in the Eredivisie in assists and is tied for first in assists amongst players 20 and younger in Europe's top five leagues. He's also 18. Not bad.

I agree. I love young guys playing in the Eredivisie. Especially attackers. He looked ready and able.

I wish all of our young talent would make a beeline for Holland. Well, attacking talent at least.

I always see this and wonder why?

Neither Bob not Bruce would've had us playing it out of the back so many times unsuccesfully. And we didn't counter really at all. Everything we did was built around trying to dictate play. We just didn't succeed a ton because Columbia is breakneck and has some technical players.

It is like a Burnley fan pointing that out after playing Arsenal.

That wasn't for lack of trying. Our passing in the midfield with Becks and Mix killed numerous counters.

Never said it wasn't an improvement, but it's not because of better play, rather better talent.
The same mistakes we made 10 years ago, we are still making now.
