How do you get to be cool?

I never have been"cool." I've always pulled for the underdog and can't stand to see someone get picked on. But my 12 year old son really wants to be cool, and pretty much is "cool." He plays sports and everyone tries to talk to him at school but he never shows a care or concern about those trying to talk to him. He literally ignores most people. Why his class mates try is beyond me. So if any of you are "cool" I would appreciate some advice, because how my son acts seems "uncool." TIA

doesn't sound like he's trying to be cool. Sounds like a humble, quiet kid that leads by example. One doesn't need to be outspoken or an attention whore to be cool.
It appears your kid is just being himself and other kids notice his approach and want to be like him.

Wow. Nothing like my son. He's the nicest kid on the block. He likes and accepts everyone and sticks up for other kids. The number one thing I have drilled into him from when he was old enough to understand was to treat others as you'd want to be treated. I've always questioned him and made him put himself in the other person's position
