If I could figure out how to post the pictures from FB to here, yall could see for yourself. Great Pyrenees dog was protecting the cattle and calves. Bear ripped the dog's abdomen and leg, bit through his muzzle and knocked out one of the dog's upper canine teeth. Vet said he thought the dog would live if infection doesn't get too bad. Got the dog on antibiotics now and sewed up the rips on his leg and abdomen. This happened in Midway, Virginia. Bears are starting to become more than a nuisance around here now.

Won't work with Facebook URLs, Alx.

He'll need to either save them, then host them on a host site like imgur or if he has them saved already, just upload to imgur then copy the BBCode and the paste it in here.

That's one of the pics he posted on FB, AlxTgr. Can you post the other one that shows the abdominal damage? In the picture you posted you can see the dog's upper canine tooth protruding from his lower lip where the bear knocked it out. And you can see the swelling on his muzzle. This was not the worst injuries, though. Thanks for figuring out how to post the pics!

Pic doesn't show it, but when the bear bit down on the dog's muzzle, it put so much pressure on the dog's mouth that the lower canines were pushed up into the gums on the upper jaw. Don't see how it kept from breaking the dog's jaws.

Scott county Damn spent alot of time on a buddys farm up there in high school we were all over the place as teens,

question you can kill the bear because livestock i am sure, and what about the castle doctrine with your property your dog is your property.

My understanding of Virginia law is that he can kill the bear anytime during the year if it is harming his livestock or his livestock guard dog.
