I've never heard of this before but then again this is the first time I've had to change my roof. The contractor gave me an estimate for Pinnacle shingles with the Scotchgard Algae protection from 3M.
Their website says this is the best algae protection in the industry but I'm skeptical.
Does anyone have this on their roof and does it work? How old is your roof and are you noticing any signs of algae?

TIA!

How long does it last? I though most of those items lasted around 10 years...

Is it an architectural shingle?

How much of an upcharge is it?

You want an archt. shingle.

Yes

Not sure what the difference is. My house is about 2,000 sq ft total and I think the roof requires 41 squares. The estimate for materials and labor is just under $10,000.

The warranty is for 20 years in terms of algae protection. It's a 30 year roof.

Would only need it on the north facing side of the roof right?

I just put that exact roof on this summer. We'll see how it lasts. Supposedly it has to do with the use of copper in the shingle. The algae can't grow with the copper. The roof looks good.

sounds like he is going to use Atlas Glassmaster,

I always use Pinnacle Pristine W/Scotch guard.

Lifetime warranty, 130 mph wind warranty,(6 nails per shingle), You have to use Atlas Hip and ridge Shingles, and Atlas starter shingles

It is a reroof. It isn't a bad number.

But a shingle warranty is pretty much worthless.
