This is one of my favorite pictures, my beautiful wife and the pizza truck! Tomorrow will be my last day as executive chef/co-owner of Dolce Vita Pizzeria. I want to thank you all for the support, love and just for being awesome! I also want to thank my business partner Charlie Ruffolo and his family for helping me to own and operate and amazing restaurant... a dream! My reason for moving on are pure personal and selfish..... i need more time to spend with my family, my wife and 3 years old son. Dolce Vita will keep having the best pizza in the city no matter what and i hope you dont judge me to harsh!

God speed, Bogdan.

No. He co-owns the place on St. Charles.

I know he's been burnt out. He was commuting a lot, and he was working long shifts.

Arse, was he commuting from BR every day? Loved the guy's pizzas when he was working here but never took the time to visit him at his new spot.

Don't think so. He has family on the WB and would crash there sometimes. I speak w/ him a good bit. Going to miss him. He's a good guy.

He also smoked some of the meats at his house. So he was working when he was away from work. That can run a person into the ground.

I'm glad for him and his family. I'm sure the product will be the same.

eta..I ate there last night. May go grab a beer tonight or tomorrow.

This really sucks. He was working his arse off. Of all the times I have been in only once was he not there and it was not the same that day.

Preaching to the freaking choir there, but I digress.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully he's able to rest-up, recharge his batteries and get back in the game if he wants to.

I was there Saturday night and heard this was coming down the pike.

Truly sad! He was a hell of a guy and made a great pie.

We had 4 pizzas Saturday night and they were all great.

I'm stuck in ATL & can't say a proper goodbye. He's a great man with a great product. Tell him "see you next time" for me.

you're sure the product will be the same? I thought way higher of your opinion until then.

Yes. One guy he's trained has been there several months. He's been training another person as well. I can't tell the difference. I'll let you know if I think it drops off.

nola article about his leaving

quote:

Before he left, Mocanu spent several weeks training Watters. He even left behind his 60-year-old starter for the pizza dough.

"I made sure," Mocanu said, "that the pizza will be the same."

I went in on Friday to say goodbye. I was the first one in the place. Bogdan was actually just finishing up meeting with the owner of a food group about going to work for them.

Said he is just burned out on working seven days a week. I infer that he meant working so much and not having the monetary and professional success that should have come with the effort.

I wished him the best of luck. Great guy.

He said he is staying in the city and will be around, just not certain where yet. Of course he vouched for the guy who is taking over pizza duties.

He was busting his arse every time I visited the new orleans location. I wish him the best of luck and hopefully the new guy can keep it up.

Hate to bump a year old thread, but anyone know if Bogdan is working anywhere?

I ate at the pizza truck twice a week and the New Orleans location whenever i was in town. I am wondering what that guy was up to.

He's working with a restaurant group I believe, but not a chef anywhere. Damn shame. His pie was the best in Nola. Guys who took over for him can't come close to matching his crust.
