I was in Houma a couple weeks ago. I bought some 10-15 right off the boats and asked about the prawns. They have never seen/caught any.

all the articles say that the local shrimpers have begun to spot them (about 600 spottings last year) but that they havent got them in big enough numbers to hit the market. plus i feel like most of those people are gonna be all like "frick those tiger skrimps, dey gonna scare away all my good eatin gulf skrimps!!!" not realizing that there is already a fairly large, established market for tiger prawns in the US and worldwide.

I'm at the Dulac shrimp houses nearly every week and have yet to see any, but I haven't asked. I'll see what up next week when I get down there

I had some recently. Pretty strong flavor. From my one experience, I'm not sure I'd put in a "fine" dish. Gumbo/stew, absolutely.

Theres no market for them. My Uncle runs a dock. If a shrimper catches one its normally one or two and they eat them, they dont sell them to the docks. Ive seen them at Rest Depot before.

My fil said, I think, that if a commercial fisherman catches one, the state wants it turned for data purposes.

I think that's what I've heard.

Yep that's true. They are supposed to be very aggressive toward other shrimp species and the state wants to track their numbers.

To the OP, they really don't catch many in the gulf yet. Definitely not enough to create a market. I know a fisherman that caught a few. Here is a pic.

They dont have to turn it in, they would like to know where they were caught though.
