quote:

"[It's] because I'm black," Hopkins said before the start of his media workout at the Joe Hand Boxing Gym. "What do you think if my name was Augustine, Herzenstein, Stern? Cappello? Marciano? Don't you understand the conflict of interest?

"If I was any of those names of any other background, I'd be on every billboard and every milk carton and every place to be. If we're talking 'American Dream,' here's a guy who almost threw his life away and he took this great country's great attributes and used it -- do for self, work hard and be a law-abiding citizen. I've done that for 26 years.

Oh Bernard

Hopkins is no stranger to speaking out about race. In 2011, he made national headlines for comments about then-Washington Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb not being "black enough."

Bernard sho loves him some race card

Hes also half-retarded which probably doesnt help, but throw out the race card and the media will eat it up so good for him i guess.

He's crAzy but he has some points...

At what point does "blackness" dissolve? Some people feel like "working hard, do for self and being a law abiding citizen" isn't enough to escape the stereotypes and "burdens" of being black in America.

And he's not the first prominent person to speak on this. So when do we look at ourselves, as a country, and ask ourselves some stuff questions ?

ehh... he is ignored these days b/c he lost his last couple of middleweight fights which was the weight class he had most of his career/success in and b/c the current heavyweights he is fighting are a bunch of "blah blah who cares" fighters.

shite, he couldn't even beat Chad Dawson who is 1-3 since being forced to beat Hopkins a second time.

I soooooo hope Kovalev beats that fool into retirement this Saturday.

But I have a feeling Hopkins will do his thing and hold, fake injuries, throw low blows, etc. and cheat his way to a win or no contest.

As long as Kovalev says frick it and unloads on him, he'll finish Hopkins.

He is ignored because his style is boring as frick. But that has allowed him to keep fighting. He should shut the frick up and entertain us.

Intelligence was never one of B-Hop's best attributes. I still love him, though.

I guess "Black Athlete succeeds at Sports" isn't as interesting as "Hey this Jewish kid can box!"
