I hired movers earlier this year (Katy). Moved about 3 miles down the road. Paid $900 for them to load, move, and unload 1 1/2 trucks (2800 sq ft house). That included them wrapping and moving my king mattress. 4 guys, 2 trucks.
Bought them Subway for lunch and tipped each $20 after.
ETA: they showed up at 9 and were done by 4

When I moved from Dallas back to BR I found movers on a moving website. Granted there was a ton of competition there compared to BR, but I paid $60 and got 2 college aged movers for 2 hours. I had everything packed in boxes but they loaded everything in my uhaul i rented. It was a 1 bedroom apartment going down 1 flight of stairs and they had it all finished in 1 hour 15 min. Best money I have ever spent.
I would think that due to lack of competition you could get movers for around $75-100 per hour in BR. Personally I would find 4 high school or college kids and pay them $15 per person per hour cash to load it all up.

Finally paid a company $400 to move me 10 miles across the city. I am young and don't have a lot so it was just one big arse truck. They did it in like 4 hours total and it was worth every fricking dollar.
They set everything up how we wanted in the new place as well. Plus, they are good at their jobs and didn't break anything like I most certainly would have in one of my 4 U-Haul loads it would have taken.

Paid about 125 in New Orleans for them to pack the truck, and about 150 in Nashville for them to unload everything
Fantastic deal there

One thing I learned a long time ago...when moving yourself, spend the extra $20 and get the biggest fricking truck they have.

Negotiable. Check here.

Packing alone can run several thousand dollars, especially for things like chinaware. If you're moving within the same state, you can pretty much hire any two guys with a truck to do the job. Interstate moves are regulated by the feds and you can expect to pay more based on distance and weight. At one time the ICC set the rates but I don't think that is still the case.

Best dang money ever spent! Used movers for 2 moves inside BR and never cost me more than $350

A few grand for them to travel. Less than a thousand if you drive the truck yourself and hirer laborers to unload for you.

Around $9000 to pack, move and unpack all my family's belongings from Germany to La.
Found my bill...
6819.00 Euro, then our container was randomly selected to be inspected in the US and cost another;
Vacis (x-ray) exam: $194.60
CES Exam: $445.00
Container storage during the exam time frame: $240.00

We moved 2500 miles across the country earlier this year and I bought a 6x12 enclosed trailer for $2300, hauled everything we could fit into it and sold it for $2500 when we arrived at our new house. It would've been nice to have someone help load boxes/furniture but we managed.

Some ghetto motherfrickers in here. Last time I moved I think it cost $1750. They were bonded. Good luck recovering when Juan drops your TV or Jamal tears up your threshold.
Some things are worth paying for and getting done right.
Actually his name was Rico, but their company was bonded. Every company I have used was a legit moving company, but the difference in personnel was night and day...

Just paid $2500 to move a 3500sf amount of furniture across town. It took a crew of 11 about 9 hours. Worth every penny.

I always ask a coach at the high school to give me a couple players. Pay them each $100

I think it cost us $600 and we moved like .25 miles. lol It was way worth it to us as they started at 830am and were done by 1:00 pm. We had moved a lot of boxes so this was mostly furniture but they'd have moved whatever we wanted them to.
VERY worth it for us. They got a nice tip too as I kinda kept getting them to move things back and forth placement wise. OOPS!
eta: 2 guys, 1 big arse truck. They made a full load and then what was left (about 1/2 of the truck). Moved the swing set and outdoor stuff too. Super nice and efficient. And CAREFUL!

After reading all answers I'm SHOCKED at how much people paid.
We got a uhaul. Paid $60 an hours for 2 guys to pack our uhaul. $120 Then drove to new house. Then used 2 other movers right around same price to unload. So spent close to $300 for movers. Plus uhaul cost.

I packed boxes and moved across town up north and it was like $350 with tip. They charge by the hour and depending on how many guys you need it can take awhile. (I had two dudes)
