Paying someone to move for you

How expensive is this? I would imagine as long as I packed it all and all they had to do was show up with a truck and load it, they could easily do it in a day. I would prefer to do it myself but I just had shoulder surgery a few weeks ago so putting weight on my arm is still quite painful.

Varies on amount of stuff and weight. Get multiple quotes and check references so you don't get screwed.

Depends on how far and how much stuff you have.
I paid $2900 to move from BR to Dallas with essentially a 3 bedroom home.
Worth every damn penny too.

Confirm with them prior to doing this. 1st time I had movers for a company relo I packed everything, they showed up, unpacked and repacked it all in their own boxes. They don't want the liability for your poor packing if something breaks.

Get some old friends who are down & out to do it.
Save some $

A few hundred dollars if you are not going too far. Also, get a mexican/hispanic crew. They actually work fast. The other kind of crew is fricking slow and drag arse to make more money. Angie's list got me a really good deal recently in Houston.

Some ghetto motherfrickers in here. Last time I moved I think it cost $1750. They were bonded. Good luck recovering when Juan drops your TV or Jamal tears up your threshold.
Some things are worth paying for and getting done right.

I'll never pack and move myself again. They are faster and more thorough and all the accountability for damages is shifted away from you.
It took our movers 5 hours (packing up, loading, unloading and placing furniture) for what would have taken me and the wife 2 days and a lot of bickering. Plus, I didn't have to be "that guy" asking friends to help move.

I did check on Angie's List but the prices that they have listed on there are anywhere from like $400 to $3500 for the same company. It would just be from BR to Geismar for me (20 minutes). I got a quote from 2 Men and a Truck and it was like $1300. Just wasn't sure if that was a rip off or not.

I think most of these broke-dicks are talking about moving their shitty bachelor apartments from Brightside to Coursey. All I can figure.

365/7 - Dont even know what that means, but the point is its one of the few things Ive ever shelled out more than a grand for and didnt feel screwed.

How nice are your furniture and personal belongings? If you care at all about nothing getting chipped, damaged or stolen, go the uninsured crew. Otherwise, check references and make sure they are bonded. Also, don't pack anything until you talk to the company. Many won't move anything you packed yourself. Others will but they clearly label & mark every box you packed doing an inventory before the move.

My job pays for mine. My last move from DFW to Nashville was about $6K. That was for a 4 bedroom house. That included them doing the packing, moving, and keeping it in temporary storage for a month.

I've used them twice. No complaints and the best rates I found.

We used movers a few months ago and it was $150 per hour. So it will depend on how far they will be traveling and how many loads they will have to make.

Not a rip off at all. My wife's aunt just had them move a 3br house in Algiers to a storage unit a few miles away for $1100. They were done in 3-1/2 hours. Worth every penny.

Having moved every three years or so curteousy of Uncle Sam, we have done this a lot. If you can, get a uhaul for the most valuable stuff. I will not have my TV or any family type stuff shipped. Some WILL go missing and/or damaged.
We usually pack everything ourselves so you will know the contents of each box. We have gone the other route and had them pack it, but shite gets all put in, and not in best shape, either.
We also like to unpack our stuff. If you have them do it, then they will just put it all in the middle of the room.
A good friend of ours had a couch that was totally demolished - as in broken in half but only held together by the by the covering. If it isn't a straight move and you will get to your new place a week or so later, they have to put it all in a warehouse. Good luck with that.
Same friends also had a nice flat screen be delivered with a hole completely through it. Done at teh warehouse.
Then you have have to consider the people who are doing the packing. Think McDonalds but worse.
Take pictures of every important/valuable thing. If - and it will be - anything is damaged, you have proof. Otherwise, its your words against the drivers/movers.
