I think we need about 5-6 tigers in that cage and then we put them in a little bit bigger trailer and let the tigers go ape shite in front of the visitors when they run out on the field.

But I also believe that the PETA-loving Vets just simply open the cage and say, "Oh well, Mike didn't go. No biggie."

The same "PETA-loving Vets" that wrote the response piece to PETA, telling them to STFU, when the activists complained about LSU looking for Mike VI?

Here are some direct quotes from Mike's facebook page where people crawl his arse all day for not going into the stadium:

quote:

Mike VI I'm usually fasted the night before a game and putting food in my trailer after that won't work because tigers aren't food-motivated. Also it's more than two hours in the trailer; it's at least four hours.

quote:

Mike VI Actually, putting food in the trailer (even if I'm fasted the night before) won't work. Tigers are not food-motivated like domestic animals.

quote:

Mike VI The trailer isn't just used for games. I go to the vet school for their Open House each year, and we'll need the trailer if I have to be moved for medical treatment. So I think we'll keep it.

quote:

Mike VI They typically try to load me about four hours before game time.

quote:

Mike VI There's a timeline on game day so that, if I load, I am in the field about two hours before kick-off; I then leave rut before kick-off.

quote:

Mike VI I haven't been to any games this season. Since 2007, I've been to 58% of home games.

quote:

Mike VI Not all tigers are the same. Just because previous tigers went to all games, doesn't mean that I will. LSU does not force me into my trailer, and I cannot be enticed.

quote:

Mike VI Non-domestic animals are behaviorally different from domesticated animals. Though I was raised in captivity, I am still a non-domestic animal. Unlike most domesticated animals, tigers respond poorly if at all to food or other treats, so putting food in my trailer will not entice me to get into it. My caretakers work with me throughout the summer to get me used to the trailer, and I will load into the trailer for these practices; however, when something is out of the ordinary (like game day), I become extremely cautious.

quote:

Mike VI I'm sorry that you feel that way. LSU has had a live tiger on campus since 1936, and we're the only university in the U.S. to have a live tiger living on campus. There are many traditions we should embrace as LSU fans, and, while I have not gone into Tiger Stadium this season, I still serve as a symbol for the university and will cheer for all Tigers no matter what. Geaux Tigers!

quote:

Mike VI I was born and raised in captivity so I've never hunted for my food.

quote:

Mike VI It's a commercially-prepared feline carnivore diet that includes meat, vitamins and minerals. It's made for large cats and has the consistency of hamburger meat. It comes in 5 lb. logs (I get 5 logs per night).

Is that why they stopped having the ROTC cadets fire that big cannon before the game?

Holy shite, please become a fan of another team.

Should stop this anyway. Why should we put this beast in a cage and parade him around loud music and screaming people. Pretty pathetic.

You've got something on your skirt btw. It is something that no other team has and it's been a tradition for years. This "beast" is not a wild animal and lives a very different existence than other Tigers. It is no more cruel than keeping him in an enclosure smaller than a lot of back yards. I'm a big proponent of animal rights, but let's all see this for what it is.

Here is Mike going to Tiger Stadium for his last trip.

Can't blame him for not wanting to go back.

Put the guy dressed as Mike. PETA should be ok with that.

If that is true, then why don't we just quit with the craptastic, bush-league BS and get Mike comfortable with coming back? Are we LSU or the WWF (or whatever name it passes for these days)? To me, the fireworks are nothing compared to having Mike tour around the stadium and making opposing teams run next to him when they come into the stadium before game time.

You keep saying things like this. I need some proof; link? If that is the case then say so. If the trailer is the issue, change the trailer. They have two weeks to figure it out. He is an animal that works on instinct. Are we really trying to outsmart him? They head vet doesn't want him to go just admit it. Then fire his arse. I believe LSU can definitely find another Tiger Expert in the budget.

I agree, if the head vet at LSU can't get a Tiger in a cage just 7 times a year, with the expense of having a live Tiger, fire his azz. Hire those two gay Tiger trainers from Vegas. Maybe Mike needs a trainer, not a Vet for this sensitive mission.

No, we just need one more Tiger, a Tigress. Just get her to go on the trailer and Mike's arse is good to go. Of course you would have to accessorize the trailer to her liking. Mike hasn't had a piece his whole life, what would your disposition be? F that trailer and F you humans while you're at it!

you call a 75mm pack howitzer big?????

although no longer used except as a salute gun, the pack 75 has been the SMALLEST artillery piece in the US arsenal since the 37 and 57 mm anti-tank guns were removed from service just after the end of WW2.

some other poster said that the fireworks is what freaked Mike out...

losing the cannon is simply political...

his habitat is nicer than most zoos around the country. by their nature, "habitats" are never going to be normal compared to a species in the wild.

I agree with you, but nothing you've said has contradicted anything in my quoted post. My point was he is a captive animal that is treated as an untamed glorified pet. How much more would we be taking away from his existence by divining methods to humanely coax him into a cage for a few hours 7 times a year?

. I agree completely. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if all this abundance of caution is due to efforts to somehow appease PETA?

Mike might weigh 600 pounds but he is still a cat. Cats are spoiled animals who do what they want when they want. By now Mike has trained his "handlers" well. They exist only to do the bidding of The Cat.
