Want to surprise the family with a quick camping trip. I know Arkansas has some nice areas and campgrounds but I haven't experienced any.

FOr those that have taken family camping trips in Arkanasas, what are some nice campgrounds or state parks to visit?

We will be driving in from Dallas.

Lost valley on the Buffalo River NR near Ponca.

elk, waterfalls on cool trails, probably top notch right now with the leaves changing. It is a different world.
dont expect a flushing toilet and cellphone service

take a fishing rod if you want to try for some smallmouth bass

Thanks guys. We have picked Magazine Mountain State park and have gotten a lodge room for Saturday night.

I'll be flying out to CA for my new job on Monday and I want to have a quick memorable trip with the family before I do.

If you have kids, Shady Lake is perfect. I took the family up there in June and it was beautiful. It's right down the road from Alberts Pike. Nice quiet camp grounds with great walking trails. The whole time we were there we only saw familys with kids like ours and old people.

Agreed. The Albert Pike area is tough to beat. Great for families; plenty of hiking trails. Bring a fly fishing rod if you have one.

Devil's Den State Park. Awesome hiking and guided cave hikes. I haven't been in years but they used to have daily softball pick-up games at 4pm too that were pretty fun. My family renovated the field one year as part of their "Friends of Devil's Den" program.

Devils Den, Mt. Magazine, Lost valley...all places that seem a world away from Louisiana Mississippi or Texas and they are so close.

Two of the most beautiful places in the state.

There are also some beautiful lake campgrounds with RV hookups all over the state, but two of the best are Greers Ferry Lake in Heber and Beaver Lake outside of Rogers.
