How Old-Timey Can Byron Scott Get?

this article has the best intro comment of the past few years

quote:

Everyone knows that a 3-pointer is worth more than a 2. What Byron Scott presupposes is this: Maybe it isn’t?

quote:

The nadir of Scott’s retrograde system was the Lakers’ October 12 preseason loss to the Warriors, when the Lakers took three 3s and made zero. Since that drubbing, the Lakers have gradually ticked up their attempts from deep. The next game, against the Jazz, they took five and hit zero; their subsequent games featured 13, 14, and 11 3-point attempts. They have hit, by my count, a total of three wing 3s all preseason.

it's the same in every league. teams would rather risk taking a guy who sucked but has coached in the league over a guy who hasn't

More of a indicator on the current state of the roster than what caliber or type of coach he is

uh

rejecting the 3 point shot has nothing to do with their roster

This is not exactly indicative of the more recent coaching hires.

It's going to be so awesome watching that season-long, slow-motion car crash.

Like over half of the NBA has rookie head coaches, most of which have been hired in last 2 seasons.

The Lakers have just been a joke of a franchise in recent years

If he actually had a roster that was capable of pounding teams down low I would love this.

That is still the superior offense to the spread pick and roll crap that 90% of the NBA runs.

Outside of Lin I don't see any deadly three point shooters to were the Lakers should be trying to shoot threes. Even the article it even says they don't make many. Why force it?

you don't have to be "deadly", especially if you're shooting long 2s. this isn't a debate about "layups v. 3s", it's about 19 footers v. 23 footers

1. Is there a break down of the type of shots they have taken?

2. The overall roster is bad. Bad teams take bad shots no matter who the coach is because without a guy to create it is harder to do it.
