Critics Consensus: Interstellar represents more of the thrilling, thought-provoking, and visually resplendent filmmaking moviegoers have come to expect from writer-director Christopher Nolan, even if its intellectual reach somewhat exceeds its grasp.

Don't really care what the reviews say.
I've tried to shield myself from everything Interstellar (apart from knowing it is a Christopher Nolan space travel movie) in order to go in with 0 expectations. I couldn't find the remote last night when the trailer came on and now I pretty much know the entire movie from a 30 second ad.

I'm still not worried. It is an extremely hyped film and there will be critics/people that get off on going the contrarian route.
It's going to happen on this board too.
It's going to happen on this board too.

For me too. The most recent television ad got me thinking, "Oh $hit - Gravity meets Armageddon" - the first time I have been de-stoked at all in this process.
Perhaps I need to avoid anything further until it is released. I'd hate to lose this one - I haven't been in a theater since Man of Steel.
This is my putative first IMAX film, if I can talk Mrs. Midnight into it...

How could anyone negatively rate a film from the Greatest Director of All Time!!! I bet those writers work for some fringe contrarian blog!!

I think the like/dislike for this movie will follow intelligence levels.

But starting out with this mindset makes honest discussion about the film impossible. It means that anyone pointing out mistakes, critiques or weaknesses, etc. is already labeled a contrarian. So no one can say anything that disagrees with popular opinion.
Primarily, it assumes that the film is perfect and will be good no matter what. And that's wrong. As much as that may or may not be the case, you don't start thinking about a film that "It's a perfect film." Before you watch it. That means that your own opinions, based on your perspective, are already flawed.
In short, thinking like this is one of the things that gets in the way of real discussions around here, and the internet at large.

Haters gonna hate. I already give a fresh review, and I haven't even seen it.

I firmly stand by my Christopher Nolan Film Reaction Timeline:
quote:
1. The Internet jizzes all over itself in anticipation.
2. The Internet jizzes all over itself after seeing it and declares it the Greatest Film of All Time.
3. The Internet will discuss the inevitable ambiguous ending ad nauseum.
4. The Internet will declare the film to be overrated and will proceed to pick apart the various and insignificant plotholes ad nauseum.
I really can't wait to see it unfold in real time.

One of the reviewers bitched about it making him think, so I'm taking this with a grain of salt.

Yeah...I was reading the tweets the last couple of nights about how a lot of people thought this would get mixed reviews because of the film's content. I'm refusing to read any of the reviews until after I see the film because I don't want to be spoiled.

Seems like the people that didn't like it were the ones that didn't get the sciencey stuff.
