Anyone noticed how no reviews have been posted today? Think maybe the critics that wanted to shite on it were first out of the gate due to the incredible word of mouth it has had, or maybe some reviewers think they need a second assessment?

I seriously doubt that.

99.9% of the time the earliest reviews are for critics the studios know are going to give it high marks.

As more and more get the chance to review a film it's average almost always goes down.

Maybe Nolan fans need to start getting ready to admit the dude is human and every movie he makes isn't going to be the bees knees.

After all, we already saw an average at best effort with Dark Knight Rises. Perhaps he has already peaked as a filmmaker?

There's no need to go into a film thinking it's infallible. There's also no need to go into a film and not expect to be amazed.

Maybe you will be, you never know. Movies are awesome.

I was kind of surprised when I saw the trailer for this movie, honestly. It just seemed like a slow paced sci fi space movie. Not that I don't enjoy those kinds of movies, it just seemed different from what we are use to seeing from Nolan. He's a very fast paced, in your face kind of story teller. He throws you right into a situation immediately. I kind of don't know what to expect. I'm interested to see how he tackles an emotionally charged visual experience.

This is understandable, considering every single frame of footage in all of the trailers is from the first 1/3 of the film. Literally nothing that occurs in the last 100 minutes of the film is shown in the trailers.

Thus, it was probably a bit difficult to create a compelling trailer for the movie, considering the fact that Nolan and the production team wanted to keep much of the plot concealed.

That's probably correct.

For a little perspective, The Prestige, which I consider one of Nolan's best movies, is only 76% on RT. I was actually shocked to see that.

That was pointed out earlier. I doubt this movie comes close to that rating.

I don't know what to think about that comment.

1. Obviously he's not going to say he enjoys a movie that tries to tread on his territory.

2. James Cameron is not the best judge in movies.

3. He fricking loves being in a submarine, so, I'm not sure if he likes the movie or not.

Up to 76% now.

And the critics I trust seem to still be raving over it, so I'm not all that concerned by it.

I'm wondering why it hasn't been "certified" fresh yet with a 76% and much bigger sample size (71) than required (40).

That's your choice, but not dispositive for me.

I'm concerned because the last 2 trailers I saw made it look like Gravity meets Armageddon meets Castaway. I was super stoked before, I remained super stoked until this final push.

I'm less than super stoked, but still stoked. The reviews don't enter into it, as I was hooked when they said, "Nolan" - however, the fakey, cartoonish CGI, reminiscent of Gravity, seems to predominate the film - maybe the effects aren't translating to normal HDTV, but, I'm concerned. If the story is going to take a back seat to these effects - THAT is what is concerning me right now.

F*ck the critics - I rarely agree with them anyway. My eyes are concerning me...

Some of you need to be put on suicide watch if this isn't one of the greatest films of all time.

I can maybe see Armageddon and Gravity, but I really don't see what it has in common with Castaway whatsoever.

I'm starting to read some reviews (not so much from the top critics/metacritic reviewers) that are directing criticisms at the "Nolanites" including some tweets from RT's editor.

No doubt there are some annoying and extreme fans (I am admittedly a fan), but when an analysis is significantly impacted by external variables completely independent of the film, then that person review shouldn't be considered any more valid than the fanboys themselves.

It seems the counter-culture mentality, which is common in music, where the mainstream popularity of an artist (in this case, filmmaker) causes some to form a negative opinion because they believe that popularity is negatively associated with quality. Although it often is, it's lazy to assume, and unprofessional if that is one's job.

This is just a theme I noticed from some of the lesser known reviewers.
