I generally don't take to MMO's well. There's only been two MMO's ever that got me actually engrossed and involved for more than a few days. ArcheAge is adding to that list. Combat is satisfying without being overly complicated. The graphics are amazing, and the sheer unique content is overwhelming. It's only been out of beta for a month, so now's a good time to get it if you're into that sort of thing. Completely free and the vast majority of cash shop items are purely aesthetic. You can grow crops, build your own house, raise livestock, and live the simple life. If you're more the adventurous type, you can dedicate yourself to robbing other players while on their trade routes and embracing the life of a pirate and/or thief. This game has everything from naval combat to flying airships. I have to say, the fact that a FTP can offer this much is astounding. I'm fanboying super hard but this is the most excited I've been over an MMO in almost a decade. I feel like a company FINALLY got it right with this one.

You peeked my interest....

One question I have

Where are they making their money? Do they have content that is only unlockable by paying...gear....something? Thats the issue I have with FTP is there is always a catch.

If you want player owned housing, which is a large part of the game, you have to pay the subscription price. You have to "unlock" the auction house by either paying the subscription fee for a single month or buying an auction pass with in game gold.

Cash shop allows you to level faster and make more money than f2p players basically. Leveling up is relatively quick.

For a PVP based game.. the cash shop is just about perfect.

There's premium service. I don't know full details of the perks it gives, but it's definitely something you can live without. There's also a cash shop, but atm it's purely aesthetic items like mounts for the most part.

I thought that was only for additional housing outside of your one quest house. Am I wrong? I thought everyone got one house, but if you wanted to buy more land, you had to have premium.

I was in the alpha and shite. Stop playing because it sucked playing by myself. If y'all are down to quest together and shite I'm all for getting back into it

Didn't realize this was released. I'm going to check it out. Seemed like Ultima Online so I was interested.

Sweet, I'll have to do that then. Should only take an hour or two to catch up to you. You in the West or East faction?

Started playing it last night and this morning on Aranzeb. I like it, although the "labor" mechanic is irritating as hell. It inhibits my ability to gather resources and open the random satchels that you get money out of. So stupid. What the mechanic even there for? What's the point?

Here's my guy so far..

I'm pretty sure I played alpha for a while. I dl'd it and played a little and recognized the look. I may give it a further look.

Because using your labor also grants EXP. It's a tradeoff. Also the labor mechanic is what is keeping the game from being pay to win. Patron membership grants you higher labor gain and allows you to gain labor while offline. That's where they are making their money. I'd rather it be like that than be pay to win like 90% of other FTP MMO's.
