Best candidate that has a shot at actually making the runoff against:

Edwin Edwards (D)

Possibly the worst congressional candidate in the history of politics.

I think EWE is just doing it to enjoy the publicity one more time. I doubt he really wants to win and move to Washington. But I could be wrong.

He's doing it for the pension for his gold digger and son. He's also doing it to carve off one last share of graft to help keep that deduct box full for generations to come.

I'm voting for Dan Claitor. He's by far the best choice for the 6th.

However, the 6th district is Garret Graves to lose. He's the solid favorite.

This. He doesn't deserve it.

Please expound on this. I remember the deduct box as an invention of Huey Long's.....

I'm going Claitor as well. Reasonable guy. Got some experience in politics. Doesn't seem as obviously bought and paid for as Graves. Dietzel isn't ready for primetime yet.

I like Rufus Craig a lot but he's not going to win. So Claitor is the best option of those who actually might.

Dan Claitor has the most name recognition in the "St George" portion of the district. Which is by far the most important Republican area of LA 6.

I'd say Claitor is the favorite.

Most haven't even heard of Garrett Graves.

Hence the wave of Garrett Graves ads all over the TV up here in Baton Rouge.

Graves has the name recognition down in the Lafourche/Terrebonne area. He's just needs to carve out some of the South Baton Rouge vote to make him the top Republican in the field.

Candidates without name recognition can get lost in a sea of names in these open primaries. Which is why Claitor, Edwards, and Dietzel (thanks to his Grandad.. nothing he's done) have the upper hand.

Graves is gaining in that respect thanks to some well placed ads.

In Baton Rouge.

There's more to the district than just here. He's well known and well funded from Houma/Thibs and spending his war-chest to improve his name recognition here in Baton Rouge. I'm not sure it'll be enough to overcome the Baton Rouge vote already going to Claitor, but it's not unthinkable that Dietzel will be able to skim enough of the potential Claitor vote to end up with Graves coming out on top. I have significant doubts that is what will happen though.

I do think he's going to come up short of what he needs in Baton Rouge

Exactly.

And then the rest of your post talks about how important Baton Rouge is.

It's obviously important being the district's highest population center. It doesn't mean Graves has to get all the Baton Rouge vote to come out on top. He's got a base down south and then just needs some Baton Rouge votes and hope Dietzel takes enough from Claitor in these parts. It's not an unreasonable scenario.

Talking about cronyism and no mention of Garret Graves? And after all the hoopla about Mary Landrieu's residence, where is the anger over Graves' not owning a house in the state and owning an $800K house in DC?

Because he might get elected and then that would be awkward for many Republicans.
