I am the good neighbor, I always lend stuff out and fix all of my neighbor's crap. The loaning out of the tools, etc is about to stop. if they can't have the decency to tell me it is out of fuel or sting, then sorry....it is not available anymore.

Quit being a pussy.

Invite him over for a beer this afternoon, and just ask him what the frick happened to your weed eater.

It's nothing to get into a fight about but instead make it something that you can frick with him about in a joking manner.

Life is too short to get all worked up over something so trivial.

Let it go. It's not worth getting in an argument with your neighbor. Maybe one day there will be a real life purge and that guy will skip over your house when he's slaughtering the rest of the neighbors. He'll think back and be like well that guy let me borrow his weed eater, I won't burn his house down. You just never know.

If my neighbor did this to me, I'd frick with him every chance I'd get. I would hold it over his head and use it to make him bring me a beer whenever I was out.

Christ people, yall get so worked up over the most minuscule things.

My neighbor does from time to time. If it is tools, he usually uses them in my driveway. He needed to cut some boards a few weeks ago. The wife and I were down in the garage cleaning stuff up and getting ready for a garage sale, so he walked over and asked to borrow it. Sets it up in the driveway so I could see him using it, and he even asked about the settings on it. I helped him adjust it, and he made his cuts. Stood around a few minutes shooting the breeze and thanked me for helping him.

A few months ago, he had rented a bobcat to clear an area behind their house, and asked me to help him clear some vines up high that were growing on his powerline, but were coming from a tree on my property. I sat in the bucket and he lifted me up to cut them down. We eventually just took the small trees out. He shoved all the debris up to the road with the bucket, and offered to blow off the driveway when we were done. I had been wanting to cut those trees down well before this, so it was nice to have someone willing to help and I now know I don't have to hesitate to ask him for anything. He's helped me carry furniture inside, fed my dogs while we're gone, and borrowed my leaf blower a few times. As long as he takes care of the stuff, I don't see an issue with it.

Sounds like the OP has a shitty neighbor.

Be glad he didn't put gas or string in it.The gas probably wouldn't have oil and the sting would be the crappy kind they sell at wally world. I only loan out expensive power tools/equipment with an operator(me).

I just assume my stuff will come back in worse shape. It is part of the doing a good deed thing.

Luckily I had neighbors that didn't screw with my stuff.

I get everything you're saying except:

He never said thanks or anything when he dropped it off.

I told him just to leave it next to my house when he was done.

Most people will loan something to a neighbor. I do and only expect it to be returned as borrowed - in working order. I had one friend borrow my pressure washer when he lost his job and needed to do something for income. Well, I had to ask for it when I needed it and it had been left out under his deck, had some issues for me to fix. I just told him it was broken the next time he asked. I have borrowed a few times myself and always return the item as clean as I can get it and fully fueled if it required fuel.

I used to have a neighbor that wanted to use my weedeater, of course I'd let him use it. Over the course of 2 months of him constantly borrowing it, I finally asked him if he had any intentions of buying one for himself and his response was great. "Well I figured since you were letting me borrow yours, I wouldn't have to do that." Yes you arse, go get your own shite. I don't mind letting people borrow stuff, but when it's expected and it goes on and on, its aggravating. He was 55 years old. Never understood that

The broken string would piss me off, not so much the gas.

Next time you seem him just ask if he had trouble getting it started... He'll probably confess. If not, just tell him it's broken now. And walk away. Shame him. Although, sounds like this guy doesn't feel shame.

ETA: I thought he broke the starter string.... If it's just out of line, who cares, you really want him attempting to replace that?
