I think basketball could be going in the right direction but has he earned that raise and extension at this point?

is teams have won 39 games over those two years (the most by any LSU coach in their first two years as head coach in the long Southeastern Conference era) and the Tigers appearance last year in post-season made him only the second LSU head coach in SEC history to take the Tigers to a tournament in the first two years.

Seems like it

No.

It's too soon for a raise and contract extension.

If he flames out, then LSU is stuck with him unless they buy him out.

Worth it. He was getting paid 12th most in SEC... That's just sad. Well deserved.

We were paying Trent 1.2mm and Jones has been MUCH better than TJ. The 1.1mm he was getting was too low.

i agree he should be paid more than trent was being paid, but he needs a big tourny appearance before a raise. I do love the direction we are heading

Well deserved.

I'd say he was quite obviously worthy of being paid higher than 12th in the SEC, but I'm not 100% sure on the timing here. I really think this season will tell us a lot about the direction we're really headed, so the logical choice for me would have been to address his contract after this year. When was his last contract set to be up?

He was very lowly paid, but he hasn't done anything yet, not warranted. They couldn't wait and see what he does this season first?

I agree the timing was weird, but I think at this point it was probably important to show faith in Jones. Especially for recruiting purposes. I don't think anyone thinks Jones would leave on his own accord, and this gives him an opportunity to tell recruits he will be around the entire time they are in BR.

I can't find when his original contract was set to expire, but it would have probably been after 4-5 years so I'd imagine he had a couple years remaining.

Collis Temple Jr, Daddy Dale, Rudy Macklin and Shaq must've all gotten in Alleva's ear

LSU has increased ticket sales by a ton the last couple years. He has given direction to a program that had stalled.

He deserves to be properly paid. 12th best in SEC was far too low. It's just up to 1.5mm from 1.1mm, it's not like he has received an unimaginable raise.

It doesn't put him into the top 30 highest paid coaches.

We do not know how much, if any, is guaranteed either.

EDIT: Just found out it is only a two year extension.

Most of the coaches in the SEC are overpaid looking at the results.

I like Johnny, but this wasn't necessary at this point.

He's off to a good, not great start. However, he is much better than 12th best salary in the conference.

Making the tournament should lead to more signatures instead of second place with these blue chips.

What has he done to deserve a raise? Attendance is terrible and post season play is nonexistent.

What's wrong with a raise without an extension?

maybe LSU thinks doing it now will prevent them from spending more on a raise at the end of the season

Wat??????? Well this year is a freebie, but if he doesn't make serious noise with Simmons this situation will be FUBAR. Dumb move in my opinion, but par for the course with Alleva.
