I initiated a DRIP with Ford through Computershare (their transfer agent)on the 12th and the money still hasn't been withdrawn. I called, but they have to "look into it" and call me back.

Computershare's website might be more trouble than what it's worth, but If I'm only going to invest $100-$150/month I can't justify even a $5 commission fee with Tradeking.

Can anyone relate? Should I give up on Computershare?

It's fine. Be patient. Takes awhile to buy because it's in large blocks. I run 6 companies through them.

Thanks. Somewhat unrelated question...but do you have to pay taxes on reinvested dividends?

Yes. You pay taxes on dividends no matter what you do with them...assuming it's a taxable account.

I think they only invest on a certain day of the month. I have CVX with through them and I think they only invest on the 20th. It is frustrating when you see your stock going up and your money didn't go through.

No kidding!
The woman on the phone said Ford goes through on the 1st and 15th. I placed my order on the 12th. I guess I just missed it.

Please tell me if you think this idea is a good or bad idea.

...buying Ford with Tradeking (only $4.95 commission) so I can get the price that I want, and then transferring it to my Computershare DRIP.

TradeKing might charge you to transfer the account, I'd check on that.

If you're investing small amounts monthly, try schwab. They have a ton of commision free ETFs and you can set them up as DRIPs also. That's what I do. Instant diversification and their funds are pretty much all low expense. Also, trades go through the same day and you can buy straight stocks if you want but then the commision is $8 I think.
