Hypothetically, if the same situation happened today, I'd be willing to bet that the cops shoot Gary dead right there in the airport. Is it just me or are they more trigger happy now? I can't see cops today having the restraint these guys had.

Considering that Gary knew those cops escorting Doucet, I doubt they would have shot him.

Exactly. I think that would still save him today. Also, there is still the rumor that the cops tipped him off.
If he didn't know them, I could EASILY see him getting shot over it.

Not that I wouldn't have done the exact same thing Gary did, but he did almost hit that cop as well.
He put the gun down and surrendered immediately. I don't think the cops would have had the time to overreact with a shower of bullets, especially in a crowded airport. Also, they obviously knew who he was right when it happened, so I would imagine most of them were glad it happened. I know I was.

I know. That's why I said they knew immediately who he was. I'm saying that the cop who was escorting the perp almost got shot as well. Watch the video. The line of fire is pretty close.
