Exactly why did L.S.U. not renew Anthony Hickey's scholly?

I am really looking forward to basketball season this year, but I never got the skinny on why Hickey left. Grades? Discipline? Other?

Probably for SOS to answer but Hickey stayed in Jones doghouse for team rules, sans a few emotional clutch performances

He didn't meet the new height requirement.

Honestly, it was probably because he and Coach Jones butted heads a lot. Hickey wasn't willing to do whatever it was that Jones wanted him to do.

Do not believe it was one problem. Basically 2 years of ignoring the classroom, not being focused at times. CJJ suspended him a few times to light a fire but it never worked. Just my opinion, but I think CJJ thought he could replace his scholly with someone more dedicated, a better leader, and less of a headache.

I enjoyed Hickey and hated to see him go but in bball there's only a few scholarships and you have to make them count.

We only have 11 scholarship players this year, we had 2 still to give.

From day one. Damn shame because Hickey was a hell of a lot of fun to watch, and would've ended up pretty high on some LSU all time lists if he had stayed.

I still think there's something we don't know. Why release a Senior that's already played 2 years and you have a scholly available. Something there we don't know. I read all the rants above and I still don't know what happened.

Seems like every time we have good players, they don't stay.

I have a hard time being positive about the basketball team. I know it can be annoying when people are like that for football, but I think it's more justified here.

Probably because he was running with Brazil, that kid was a bad seed....

Some guys here have pretty much hit the nail on the head but I'll put it the best way I can.

To start, I think Anthony Hickey was a great Tiger. He was a very hard worker and good in the community. He often would go out of his way to go to hospitals, play with kids, etc. He also loved to be in the gym. He was a very hard worker when he wanted to be.

I believe the big problem came when he was told to do certain things he didn't see as important. Supposedly was often late to team meeting. Supposedly would skip classes and tutoring sessions. Supposedly wouldn't listen to some of Coach Jones less serious team rules.

Jones tried to get him to understand that the rules are important, even if Hickey didn't feel like they were. He suspended him twice, and made it very clear what he expected from Hickey, and he still wasn't able to follow Jones' rules.

Coach Jones did offer to allow Hickey to stay at LSU with his basketball scholarship (but not participate with the team) so he was not just trying to strip Hickey of the scholarship. He genuinely felt that Hickey's attitude towards the rules could become an epidemic.

I also think the emergence of Quarterman could have had some part in it. Jones was talking about moving Quarterman to an off-guard with Gray coming in and Hickey returning. This made Quarterman consider transferring. I don't think this was as big of a reason as it could sound, but it could have played some small part.

Extremely simplistic way of looking at this scenario. We've almost undeniably upgraded at the guard position, and as SoS touched on, there were some issues of Hickey and Jones not really seeing eye-to-eye on things.

The transferring is a terrible epidemic. It is not a problem that LSU has, it's a problem that all of basketball has.

That being said, with the ability for coaches to release players before their 4 years are up, it is a necessity.

For the most part, LSU has lost players who wouldn't have played a large part moving forward, and Ralston Turner. He's the only guy I can think of that transferred even with a big role at LSU.

Players leave for the draft early all the time. It's just the way basketball.
