I think I'd like to see the story behind this ridiculous statement.

It's not ridiculous. Every single animal I've known to get taken there "ends up dying." I'm not joking either.

lol, yes, it is ridiculous.

What kind of cases do you think get referred to a vet school? Things typically do not show up on a university doorstep until it gets bad.

We were frying fish outside and left the grease outside to cool off. Once it cooled our beagle ate the whole can of fishy tasting crisco. He was swoll up like a tick about to pop and laid under a tree in the shade for about 3 days. After that and probably a serious case of the shits he was good to go.

Did you miss the part where you are asking for veternary medical advice on a board dedicated to debauchery and mayhem?

So pics?

I can wait, I realize that you need to get to sleep soon.

I don't think your interpretation of what happened in your experience can be extrapolated to the other 20k cases per year that hospital receives

Well my wife's cat had multiple surgeries in both Ga and La and our La vet had basically given up hope and suggested we take it to the vet school as a last option . That was nearly ten years ago and the pussy is fourteen now so my experience trumps yours.

Dogs metabolize theobromine found in chocolate (and also caffeine) at a much slower rate than humans (I think on the order of about 10 times slower). Humans have specific genes that break it down quickly in liver, so both theobromine and caffeine or possibly other xanthines are toxic at high doses to dogs.

On a related note, imagine downing a 10 caffeine pills at once or even more depending what the dog actually ate.

I think I remember reading a story where a kid died consuming too much caffeine anhydrous powder which can be deadly if abused.

Sounds like you better put your head between your dogs legs and kiss his arse goodbye.
