They don't give two shits since they are the SRT group.

They actually rolled SRT back into Dodge. So the Viper is back to being a Dodge Viper. They are trying to posture Dodge as the performance brand; just saw an article on autoblog that they will likely discontinue the Chrysler 300 SRT8 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 will become a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

Gotta admit though, they do some really questionable shite. Keselowski wins the NASCAR title with Dodge in 2012, Dodge withdraws from NASCAR in 2013. Team Viper wins the 2014 GTLM driver and team championship in the IMSA TUDOR United Sportscar Championship, Dodge pulls the plug on Team Viper the following day. Only thing they have left is NHRA.

Sorry for buying American. Didn't realize that buying cars with plants in America was frowned upon.

These are all good things, IMO. We've had several generations grow up thinking an effin' Honda with a loud exhaust is a "performance" car. I don't blame those kids, for awhile, nobody was selling anything worth a crap.

If you believe this then I question your knowledge about cars. You can squeeze quite a bit of power and speed out of a Honda 4-banger. It just takes a lot more than an exhaust.

I can spend $60k and get a German car that's <1s slower in the 0-60, wayyyyyy nicer on the inside, and I can also be a smug piece of shite about driving ~German engineering~

eta: it also won't handle like I've got the green-apple quicksteps

You mean like Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai? Are buying these American built cars now frowned upon?

Like what?

The handling on a similar German car will be marginally better, at best. And FWIW, the Challenger and Charger are built on the LX/LC/LD platforms, which incorporate mostly German engineering. I love Mercedes AMG cars...I almost bought a 2011 C63...but you're being ignorant if you really believe what you typed.

707 horsepower to the rear wheels. What could go wrong?

I'm not sure if the reference to MB is for "Germans", but it was clever to me.

I'm excited to see them. It represents a return to muscle cars in spite of increasing regulation. I'm uneasy about the Dodge interior, but everything looks bad arse. I'm kinda torn between a Charger Hellcat or a C7 Stingray.

I haven't seen it in person but all of the reviews say the interior is very nice. Now comparing the Hellcat to the C7 is comparing apples to oranges.

That is because the chassis actually contains parts developed by Mercedes Benz. Remember when they where part of Chrysler? Well the platform the Challenger was built on was a collaborative effort between the two companies. Just some trivia for all of y'all throwing out this German engineering stuff.

Ask any question you want, I'll be happy to educate you.

Getting horsepower out of a 4 cyl. is not impossible, but you're still going to lack torque, and in most cases, you're driving it through the front wheels. Good luck managing that additional HP through a FWD w/o reengineering the whole damn car.

It's just easier to work with more displacement and RWD.

Covered that in my post, see below

More trivia...from 2005-2012, Chrysler also used the Mercedes WA580/NAG-1 5 speed automatic in the Charger/300/Challenger. They now use a ZF sourced 8 speed...take a guess what nationality ZF is? (Hint: ZF stands for ZF Friedrichshafen AG).

Lot's of German components and engineering in those Chrysler cars.

Let's just assume that no one here is talking about FWD.

Yep, and my post was meant to piggyback off of yours. I just find it funny when people dismiss Dodge and talk about German engineering.

Yeah, I think we were actually agreeing that a loud exhaust does not a performance car make.

It's pretty cool to be able to buy a 6cyl Camaro or Mustang or Challenger (I assume they have a base model) that makes an honest 300HP. Reasonable price, solid reliablity, good looks.
