Despite overwhelming evidence of corruption, it doesn't look like Qatar will be losing its 2022 World Cup hosting privileges. Which still leaves that little problem of how to play in the heart of a Middle Eastern summer. One new proposal involves pushing back start times into the night and early morning, with the latest matches kicking off at 1 a.m. local time.

quote:

"You could play the first games at 7pm, the second games at 10pm and the third matches at 1am," he told BBC Sport.

"You'd change everything. It would be a couple of hours behind in Europe, and that would help TV," he added.

"The weather would still be very warm at night, but the sun is not there and that could help.

"I know it's not easy. We'd sleep during the day and work during the night.

"It's only an idea. You'd have to investigate a little bit more."

quote:

And for those of us in the Eastern time zone, the 1 a.m. matches would kick off at 6 p.m. here, putting the tournament on more or less the same schedule as this summer's one in Brazil.

Well I guess that's better than anyone dying of a heat stroke, but my god this is gonna be a shite show.

Won't be attending any games so I hope they use that schedule. Streaming games on my phone at work then hitting happy hour to catch the late game was a blast this past summer.

Not going to complain if it pushes games into prime(ish)time

Basically when the Spanish start their games, so whatever

This would at least help make it less of a shite show for us at least.

I'd have to imagine a lot of teams wouldn't be happy with it

Curious how close to reality this idea is. Would be interested to see how many people are in the seats at 3 am when matches are finishing.

I say do it, better viewing opportunities here in states which has been a major concern anyway.

In fact I may actively petition for this. #1amstartsaregreat. See it's trending.

I'm not so sure Qatar is still getting the WC. There's a lot of time between now and 2022 and A LOT can happen. Obviously that means Qatar could get their shite together in that span as well but it's too early to tell.

They don't have to as long as they keep the oil money flowing into FIFA.

I would post an opinion, but it won't matter. The US is totally going to host this thing.

Another signal this WC will be a disaster. Russia and Qatar should both be stripped.

Zero, even terrorist love football.

They bomb the WC and the whole world would be declaring war on them.
