They've also intentionally drafted two redundant big men with injury problems that wouldn't be able to play for awhile.

They are planning on playing the 2 together. Noel has been spending 90% of his time on offense in the high post and at PF.

Yeah I hate the draft wheel idea with a passion. Helps big market teams way too much.

People think that but I think the opposite might play out. I think you end up with more big name but marginal players getting stupid contracts because they started out in a big market.

If you want to eliminate tanking you have to eliminate the incentive. The 76ers have demonstrated that mitigating the incentive is not enough.

Speaking of tanking.

I cannot see that combination working, but good luck to them.

He's actually looked very good in that spot in the preseason. Making some good passes, actually knocked down some midrange jumpers, and he's been able to get to the rim. They'll be a terror on the defensive end when Embiid is healthy.

Doesn't bother me too much as a 76ers fan. I understand why the league is upset and why owners fear what Philly is doing. I think the proposed changes are crap though, the team with the worst record should not have the highest odds to get the 7th pick (around 30% I think I read).

Remember that a team that was trying to win, the bucks, finished comfortably ahead of the 76ers last year. Should they be punished?

Because getting 1 player can change the trajectory of a franchise in the NBA way more than any other sport tbh.

Everything this.

There is no way the wheel ends up favoring the smaller market teams. It is a terrible idea and would kill the NBA's momentum at worst and maintain the status quo at best.

This does seem to get overlooked way too easily, same as the Lakers being terrible.

If Embiid is the talent that people believe then the fit should be fine. Embiid is the center defensively, power forward offensively and flipped for Noel.

I can't believe people think that the 76ers picked those two because they were hurt. They were the best available talents, philly just didn't care about the time table for when they got on the court.

Yeah if you want to look at a tanking pick it was probably the Saric pick

With the way the 2013 draft is playing out it looks more and more like Philly did the right thing in taking Noel.

Yeah I don't get the urgency to do it IMMEDIATELY. They should make it 3-4 years down the road so every team has enough time to start to adapt and adjust accordingly.

The poor 76ers started and have continued the rebuild with a certain model and framework in mind and this is completely unfair to them.

Essentially just trade value. Completely changes the value of picks especially when you throw protections in there.

While I see how it changes the value, it's value is based on so much uncertainty at this point that the impact can't be estimable enough at this time. Besides one could argue that a pick from a team projected to finish last, with a fair amount of uncertainty, would have less change in value due to the better odds if the team doesn't finish last, which is fairly likely.

I'd like a modified wheel proposal. I think the top five picks should rotate from year to year. Every six years the Lakers, Rockets, Knicks etc getting a top five pick is good for the sport and in the meantime the lottery would distribute picks 6 and lower based on a ping pong system like what the NBA currently has.

Small market teams struggle to compete because they are either poorly run or they can't get and develop good players. A wheel evens out the chances of landing a great player in a way that is better for competition and product quality than the current tank now to win later system.

BTW some, if not most, of the NBA's current problems with small market teams are absolutely their own fault. In the NFL a great player will be more likely to be noticed because the game broadcasts and team's publicity given are more evenly distributed on major television. I'm not arguing they are equal btw, obviously the NFL has some teams that get a lot more attention - but it is nowhere near as bad as the NBA. If you go back and look at which teams are publicized the NBA has shamefully failed to promote many of their teams on their major weekly broadcasts and then wonders why people don't understand how many of the less publicized teams are in the playoffs or even better than the more heavily publicized teams they've been pushing all season.

Philly tanking their seasons has been pathetic and has hurt the league in a sense by teams saying "pay us money to watch crap and hopefully in a few years when our plan works, we'll get lucky and be a good to great team".

Trying to lose to game the system doesn't deserve support. I would be thrilled if they made the changes effective immediately just to stop the stupidity that teams like Philly are engaging in.

thats terrible.

Thats worse than the rules they have now. I know tanking is a problem, but it already is so just fricking give the worst team the first pick.

With all due respect, and I mean with all due respect, this post of yours is 100% garbage. Without wasting too much time on it, why exactly do the big market teams need high picks? They don't. These days, the NBA is driven by stars, not teams.

Further, no one is saying small market teams can't compete because they do compete under the current model. Hand me outs cause your city is bigger is the exact opposite of what makes sports entertaining.

I wonder how many fans in other NBA cities buy tickets when the Sixers come to their town. It's like seeing your team plan an exhibition game vs. a D-League team.

Philly also tried hard to trade MCW over the summer.
