City officials told Donald Knapp that he and his wife Evelyn, both ordained ministers who run Hitching Post Wedding Chapel, are required to perform such ceremonies or face months in jail and/or thousands of dollars in fines. The city claims its “non-discrimination” ordinance requires the Knapps to perform same-sex wedding ceremonies now that the courts have overridden Idaho’s voter-approved constitutional amendment that affirmed marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

I don't trust the source, but it is just a matter of time before this happens.

Some enterprising individual should start a same sex denomination. Would make a killing on the weddings.

Then, anyone forcing a church to make same sex weddings is doing so just to force the implosion of their faith.

Fascinating times in which we live.

I'm assuming Hitching Post Wedding Chapel is a for profit business.

RFRA the shite out of them. ETA: I know the RFRA doesn't apply to local and state governments.

In all seriousness, though, if these ministers don't like the law of the City they live in, they can move.

Wasn't that the original idea?

My philosophy on this is clear: If you want my church out of your government (and believe me, you do), the government needs to stay out of my church.

There is no way that story is true. Toddy assured us for years that churches and ministers would not be forced to marry homosexuals.

Not sure, but there is a Huge difference between a real church and a for-profit, non-denominational wedding chapel.

They wouldn't want to marry in a same sex church. This about sticking their fingers in the eyes of others.

So the business should have to move instead of Vegas Bengal having to find another minister to perform the ceremony? That seems about as reasonable as the average Ghazi thread.

many people have desires as to where to be Married. A gay couple may have a deep connection for some reason to a certain Church, or maybe they like this certain Church for it's beauty. They ask if they can have a gay weeding in this church, and the pastor says no. They turn around sue the Pastor because he discriminates against them.

It hasn't happened. This isn't a church. And no gay couple has asked to be married by these ministers or in their "chapel".

The city attorney told them that since they run a for profit business and the city has a public accommodation law the chapel may fall under it:

quote:

“If you turn away a gay couple, refuse to provide services for them, then in theory you violated our code and you’re looking at a potential misdemeanor citation,” Wilson said.

It's not clear if he meant they'd have to officiate. But in any case it's an opinion of a city attorney attempting to give advice on his interpretation of the law and he used the words "in theory". I think the plaintiffs here are jumping the gun. And I doubt any judge would force a minister to perform a gay wedding... And that's what we said.

Aren't women supposed to be silent in the churches?

Not that this even is one, but talk about confusing your views.

They should force the Muslims to marry same sex.

We'll see if they keep their heads.

Are they ordained ministers? Yes, they are.

Irrelevant to my post. The GOVERNMENT is forcing them to perform homosexual marriages if asked to do so.

You try too hard to refute obvious facts.
