definitely before my time, but I don't hear too much about these guys on the classic rock station around here. This version of "walk away" is amazing. Reminds me of MMJ's performance of "One Big Holiday" on Conan, way back when.

I don't know Heady...Mike Gordon should refrain from signing that tune.

I have always thought Joe Walsh must be bored to death with the Eagles, it has made him a ton of money, but he usually only gets to do two of his songs at their live concerts, when they do funk 49 the crowd just comes alive and wants more, but then it is back to the Eagles smooth and easy crap.

I disagree - Joe made the Eagles more of a rock band. Don't get me wrong, I was practically weaned on The Eagles - one of my first (if not my very first) "album" was the The Eagles Greatest Hits 1971 - 1975 - on 8-track - I probably got that in 1975 right before Joe joined the band.

I saw the Eagles at the Superdome in 1994 - during the Hell Freezes Over Tour - being both a fan of The Eagles and Joe, that was a real treat (Felder was still in the band and they weren't hopelessly old at that point) - they played:

Ordinary Average Guy

Help Me Through The Night

Funk #49

Life's Been Good

Rocky Mountain Way (encore)

That was a 28 song set, 4 Joe Walsh solo, 1 James Gang, plus, "Pretty Maids All in a Row". Now, for whatever reason, they didn't play "In the City", but it was on the HFO album.

Considering that Life in the Fast Lane is a heavy Joe riff, and he shares the spotlight and has a solo on "Hotel California", the Eagles biggest hit - and it was a pretty good night for Joe.

Now that Felder is gone - 14 years or so - without Joe, The Eagles are a country band. He makes them better than they give him the opportunity to do more than he could have alone - IMHO.

Can't disagree with any of your post.

The guitar "duet" on Hotel California is so good. The way Felder and Joe coordinate their harmonious "bends" gives me chills.

This is a great cut from that James Gang Rides Again album :

Bomber Medley

(check out JW's take on Ravel's Bolero at the 3:35 mark)

James Gang did a reunion tour a few years back and I caught them at Red Rocks. Did pretty much the entire JG repertoire and finished with the obligatory Rocky Mountain Way. Great show.

My favorite Joe Walsh line was when he was introducing Rocky Mountain Way (I think it was at the Crossroads Festival). He said, "If I had known I'd have to play THIS song for the rest of my life, I'd a wrote somethin' differnt."

The best James Gang album is James Gang Live in Concert - 1972. Great stuff.
