What exactly does that mean??? Duck Dynasty according to my link has been subsidized $6.2 million by Louisiana tax payers. Much of this subsidies represents 35% of the salaries paid to the stars of the show.

The subsidies have been expanded in a huge way by republican Bobby Jindal (do you think his face time on the show was a coincidence?).

Now the thread is about does Dasher support this corporate welfare at the expense of taxpayers that his cousins have benefited from??

That is a legitimate question. I guess boy ducky you should declare if you for this welfare or not yourself.

I am not a fan of he film tax credits because I would rather there be no income tax in Louisiana. But since we have it, tax credits are typically a reduction of taxes due unless it is refundable. Is this tax credit refundable? If not, how is corporate welfare if the corporation is simply being gouged less by the State than it otherwise would be?

It is convertible to cash regardless of whether you have taxes to pay or not. It is based on expenses and not income.

It is just like the state giving you a "tax credit" for 30% of your power bill, your gasoline bill and your food bill. Then telling you regardless if you owe taxes or not they would give you cash for the credit. Tax credit is a misnomer of this subsidy.

That is the definition of "refundable tax credit". So "yes" would have sufficed. Nonrefundable means it can bring your tax bill to $0 at most but it will not result in net cash paid to you by the state. I don't think refundable tax credits should be allowed in any circumstance.

Vance McAllister responded and I like his response---

quote:

I do not, I think the tax credits to the film industry, regardless if they are my friends, is a terrible investment by the state. For every one dollar we receive from the film industry we giveaway seven dollars! That is a losing proposition and it is not creating long term employment for Louisiana! Lee must create jobs for Louisiana and we need to grow the jobs we have before we giveaway the bank to new companies!

Kudos to Vance!!!

I wish the show would give back all the state subsidies they have gotten.

Que?

So everyone who gets a tax credit should give it back to help the state balance it's budget? My,
that's so generous of you....giving away other people's money.

Most of these films are also filled with filth and obscenity, the state should be enacting Comstock like laws that would preclude such pornography from being filmed here. The moving picture industry should be taxed heavier not less.
