Long time ago. POW island near Ketchikan has good black bear hunting (that's were Steven Rinella has a camp) and brown bear are on the ABC islands further north, near me.

Outside of mountain goat, coastal brown bear can be one of the toughest hunts. You better nail that first shot.

I hunted them in NC. That was way back in the early 70's. I was a kid and I though is blew the big one at the time.

I've watched video of poor Mr. bear coming in to a pile of donuts and getting an arrow thru the lungs. Sad. What do you plan to do with the meat? Greasy.

Yeah, you're gonna really love that trip. Awesome area. If I ever moved out of the S.E. I would look into the Petersville area.

I sure hope so, looks to be beautiful, he only went 1/4 on moose this year but had 2 bow hunters and a short range rifle miss, said he saw more moose this year than ever before and at least 2 separate 70" ers, everyone who had bear on the contract filled thier tags

A friend grew up catching them in Maine and then selling canned hunts to brokers out of NY.
He said they handed the guy a shotgun and a round, then threw open the door of the cage.
Maybe 1/20 even got a shot at the bear and that when you open that door the bear is off at FULL speed straight into the woods.
He said they made a bundle every year.

depends on what you want. NC does probably have biggest in US. Don't care much for bait British Columbia has only spot and stalk, probably Vancouver Island biggest, but expensive, but mountain hunting is fantastic. Want an adrenaline rush, try grizzly or brown bear, but very expensive. Oh, Roger, I would put sheep hunting more difficult than most any bear hunt, but agree some bear hunts can be very difficult and quite the adventure!

That is about what I have heard, have a buddy that was talking to a guide about a sheep hunt , and the guide told him before he would accept a deposit he had to send him a picture with his height and weight as well as a letter from his doctor
