Dean lost to a weaker candidate

Todd Akin. What a selfish piece of shite he was refusing to admit he fricked up and gracefully bow out if the race to help his party. I'm glad McCaskill handed him his arse after he had the audacity to act the the way he did after the gaffe and being crazy enough to think he could win in the ensuing media shitstorm and the GOP dropping him like a hot potato. He deserved to lose.

There's also a Texas gubernatorial candidate that made one hell of a gaffe that walked Ann Richards straight into the Governors mansion. Can't remember what it was.

Dean, he was running for a much higher office and was a much more legitimate candidate. His melt was an all-timer.

Clayton Williams.

"Mr. Williams has been criticized for campaign comments like one in which he compared rape to bad weather: "If it's inevitable, relax and enjoy it." He later apologized for the remark."

You're thinking of Clayton Williams in 1990. He led the race by 20-something points until he made the infamous "If it's inevitable, just relax and enjoy it" rape joke. It also came out that he liked to party at the Chicken Ranch back when he was in college (the place that inspired the ZZ Top song "La Grange").

Dean was already toast when he yelled. The yell didn't do him in. He finished third in Iowa and was trying to rally the troops. The yell was just funny.

This was the biggest melt down of a Democrat in the primaries in modern history:

Followed by this:

Muskie crying.

Is this all centered around Davis's wheelchair ad?

Not true at all. A NH poll that came out on the day of the Iowa caucus had Dean leading Kerry by 7 points in NH. Historically, Iowa results almost never affect NH primary results, and both Dean and Kerry were "neighbors" of NH. Had Dean quietly taken his 3rd place finish in Iowa with class and dignity, he would have quite possibly beaten Kerry in NH. The outburst made him a laughingstock and the rest is history.

Vols, you're trying too hard. Not here specifically, just in general.

The wheelchair ad is bad by itself but it's stupendously stupid when combined with the history of her campaign's comments on her opponent's handicap & the backlash she'd already faced. There was really NO upside to that ad for her. It was one of the worst PR moves I can remember.

But she never had a shot at winning so... Dean was worse.
